45 Max. Unless you wanna mod the arches. I've had ET 40s on mine but its taken a lot of work to clear the arches both inside and outside.

my arches are rolled so i have a bit of clearance. any chance of 16s?

If you have an ET49 you can get 17s under there. But you really need to tell us what wheels you wanna fit.

Also bear in mind Vauxhall tolerances on cars such as the Nova were... crap tbh lol. So what fits one with no problem may not fit another unless you've got a good >5mm clearance either way.

Not quite true as I dont know of any 17x6 inch alloys that would come in 49mm offset, infact i dont know of any 17x6 inch alloys in any offset, once you get to 17s your looking at 7inch wide (maybe 6.5). In which case 49mm brings the wheel too close to the inner arch/strut so you need to drop to 45mm.

As stated above tolerances are a key issue but heres the general rules ive seen and worked to.

15 inch
most 15" diameter alloys are 6" wide meaning 49mm offset is ideal. with 195 45 15 tyres you should get miminal rubbing with unmoddified rear arches and no rubbing with lightly trimmed/rolled rear arches.

195 50 15 tyres on the same wheels are likely to rub slightly unless rear arches are well trimmed.

16 inch
most 16" alloys come in 6.5 inch width or more.
The main exceptions being compomotives and speedline allesios, coming in 16"x6" and 49mm offset. Hence why these are so popular on novas. The above fitted with 195 40 16 tyres should require no or minimal arch mods. 195 45s will rub slightly more but will fit.
If fitting 6.5 inch wide rims you will need 45mm offset and very well trimmed/rolled arches. PLus expect rubbing under heavy load.

17 inch
As i metioned, these never come (in my experience) in less than 6.5/7" wide so as such will need arch mods and 45mm offset and as low profile tyres as are suitable. expect rubbing even with arch mods. also expect a harsh ride and naff handling.

In all cases any lower offset 49mm will generally require more and more arch mods. (unless the width is under 6", ie you could use 45mm offset with 5.5" wide rim and have no issues) but i only know of 14" (and some 15") wheels coming that narrow.

Yes you can, but i doubt they are 6" wide, meaning they are intended for larger vauxhalls. I would imagine he would have had spacers to stop them for clouting the struts.

Ahhh I see now. Actually, I had ET45 on my Nova and they cleared the strut but sat out a bt alright.

Good and very valid point.
