Quite often, I cannot select reverse gear in my Nova. The problem has got worse recently. I am running a Corsa 5 speed box on a 1300 ohc engine.

Does anybody know whats wrong? Is it selector fork? Or linkage?

Cheers.

Get a look under the bonnet, and give the linkages a bit of a play. If theres a lot of free movement then it could simply be a small plastic bushing in the linkages. It may also be that connection from the gear lever to the linkages has turned slightly.

Any problems getting 5th gear or any other? Do you keep selecting 1st instead of Reverse?

same as the Dod, but id also check the condition of the engine mounts as well

Yea, I keep getting first instead of reverse! All other gears work perfectly! I can sometimes get reverse, but mostly just get 1st!!

I will have a wee mince at it lol .

Another question - I'm changing my headgasket as its starting to leak oil, Can I re-use my old headbolts??

Cheers for replies.

Rocker Cover Gasket?

Sounds like your linkage has moved a little. Do you know how to readjust it?

Nah well haven't got a chance to look at it yet dude!! I will report back with my findings!! Well I think its the head gasket as theres a fair bit of oil, its running down the gearbox n' shoite!

I'm actually gonna go out now and wipe all the oil off and make sure it isn't all from the rocker gasket lol. I'll take it for a spin and then look.

The valves are tapping and one of the plug socket threads in the head are shagged! Mates got a good 1200 carb engine, I was thinking of just robbing that of its head and fitting it with a new gasket?

I've ordered all the gaskets and belts anyway as I don't know when they were last changed.

The 1200 head with the 1300 cam? I've heard this gives slight gains?

Cheers

See the guides i think there is a mention of the gains etc.Reset your gear linkage to how it should be and make sure its very tight.Mine did the same after the conversion

I made sure its in the right place and tight on the selector rod and she still only gets reverse the odd time. Very strange!

you will need to change your headbolts as well mate as the old ones would have stretched.

Cheers dude! But I cleaned the oil off the engine earlier, took it for a spin, and it looks like the oil has been running down from the rocker cover and sitting on the little ledge of the block!! Silly me!

Silly me / Clever Doddie!

Nah, I just checked if the linkage was tight on the selector rod and in the right place but its still the same, only get reverse the odd time!
