Hi everyone,
im new on here and im looking to get myself a track toy and im thinking 2.0 nova.
Could anybody shed any light on the difference in performance between the 2.0 c20xe and the 2.0 ecotec?
there is obviously a reason why everyone fits the c20xe to there cars and not the ecotec?
Many thanks
Paul.

ecotec=eco****e valver all the way mate
The ecotec is a euro 4 engine if I remember right, similar to the XE but more restricted, not bad by any means. XE is a euro 3
Ecotec - 138bhp
XE - 150bhp after a rebuild.
ecotec=eco****e valver all the way mate
They are both valvers:wtf::wtf:
Ones pure garbage and the others an XE lol
They arent garbage though, they arent that much down on power from a c20xe.Infact it would be the same if not the ecotec being the quicker until the xe got reconditioned
Yeah i spose but thats possibly only due to it being a newer engine tho, id stick with an xe if youre thinking of doing any form of conversion:thumb:

X20XEV is the later spec 2.0 ecotec, its got a girdled bottom end and its a bloody strong block! Pleanty of tuning potential, just look to the states to see what sort of ridiculous power 2.0 and 2.2 ecotecs they are running.
Personally I dont see the fascination with the red-top engine?

I'm thinking go for the redtop for a track use as it can take a beating better,However the ecotec isn't such a bad engine.
ive had ecotecs and theyre just as strong as redtops so nope an xe wont take a beating better, only problem ive found with the ecotecs is all the sensors an stuff attached to em, i had a load of trouble and everytime it was a sensor or something stupid, but the actual engine itself was faultless i have to say, and it got driven hard

0-60 is only about a second diffrence top end the red top has about 5mph more. in a race it would be very close.
i had a ecotec tuned to 185bhp with still more power to be had once set up.
ecotec you will find hard to get secondhand tuneing parts for but buying new you wont. untill you change the management you wount be able to get decent power.
driven both ecotec and redtop with throttle boddies perfer the drive of the ecotec for every day driveing and slow to mild speed for flat out driveing the redtop had the edge.

The XEV has balancer shafts in the sump which adds a bit of weight into the rotating assembly, great idea for steady cruising on the motorway, but I've found that because of it you need to keep the revs up if you want to have a bit of fun. I also hate the way that I have to wait for the variable inlet to catch up when I put my foot down, unfortunately even a cheap set of bodies to cure that is a grand.
