View Full Version : 1.0 nova tuning HELP?!
I have a 1.0 nova and its the slowest thing ever! dont have the money do do a conversion so whats the best way to get more power out of the crapy litle engine? Cheers
search is your friend!
pretty similar to 1.2/1.3/1.4 tuning
You cant get more power out of the 1L engine.
As no one makes tuning bits for them.
So unless you do some home brew turbo, or fit nitrous, theres nothing to improve opon.
a full service tbh lol, change the oil, all filters, water, the lot, it will at least make it run abit smoother, ive got s 1l and after a service it was noticeabley more responsive.. theres not much power there to start with so you notice the difference lol
also a strut brace that goes around the original air filters a good one :thumb:

Not really many tuning options but you can put your car on a diet..
Rip out the rear seats, carpets, door trims, shelf, stereo, sound-deadening, cut off any bits of pointless metal, run steelies with no hubcaps.. etc. etc.

DONT. Simple as that. Stop trying to rag it & it won't feel as lame.
The money you save from wasting on a filter, exhaust & magic tree's can go towards a better car or a conversion in the future.
It really isnt worth it IMO until you get into 1.3/4 or 1600cc & beyond to do any tuning.
You can buy a 1400 8v for the price of a complete service on a 1L,Lol

if you dont rag it you dont move

ianb90 Stop being a tool and learn to drive then?
I had a 1l you dont need to rag it to move at all.I wouldnt waste money on barry exhausts or filters because they dont "add 10bhp" at all.Use your money to get the thing solid, buy the panels it needs to get rid of the rust. That way in a few years time when your insurance goes down and you have more cash, you will have a sound shell for a bigger engine.

Does the 1.0 have the same sort of power as the 1.2i *cat* ?
If so, there not actually that bad, we had mines doing 95 dash speed and it got there fine
They don't need to be ragged silly to get them to go - They have enough to keep up with modern traffic I'd say
They are.My mate got 100 out of mine when we picked it up,be about 91mph properly which is adequate.I would concentrate on setting it up to corner better and as i said sort the bodywork out.Power is 43hp Vaughan btw

My wee 1.2i has an air-filter on it and a Magnex backbox and they don't do anything to the performance just make it sound a wee bit meaner
Mines has lowered and uprated...lol...G-Max suspension and front and rear ARB's - Handles well
The thing about it for me is, other cars you need to slow for the corners but the old 1.2i can go at 60 no problem and also corner at 60 easily lol Its great fun

simple things really:
remove the berries from the manifolds and ports, cut back the valve guides and give the head a full de-coke. set the timing and change the advance springs to give a few degrees more advance at high RPM. new air filter with cold air feed (on std air box), use a stepped key or remove the key and advance the cam timing a degree or 2. set all the valve clearences bang on. skim the head, inc the compression ratio and use better fuel. build a new manifold to take the 1.2 carb and re-jet to suit.
that lot will be a good improvment, however in std, well maintained state, the 1.0 OHV engine is very nice to drive, quiet, and economical with good gearing and good spread of torque for town and adequate to reach 70mph where conditions allow.
Meritlover loves the 1.0 OHV engine.

every one seems to be drifting from the question he asked apart from meritover
the problem is that the 1.0 ohv is an overlooked poor relative of the gm engines.
there was a 1200 ohv fitted in mk1 & 2 astras, it is not the same engine as the chevette 1256 engine.
if you are prepared to do some machining work, as meritlover says, you will get some good results. the only problem is that it will cost much more than just buying a bigger engine.

I got one for nothing!
It depends on your budget and age/insurance. Even a 1.2 for a bit more power.
