anyone ever had either a vauxhall viva, victor or firenza?
am looking to get a classic vauxhall and rat road it and turn it into a drag car, miss my old matt black capri but want to stick with vauxhalls. what kind of engine and gearboxes can be put in them? i know someone near me with turbo'd redtop in a chevvette.

It would be a massive shame to 'rat up' a classic Vaux. Its a sad trend thats hitting all manner of cars that have survived for so long.
Any engine/gearbox will go into any car with enough know how & skill.

had a mk3 capri last year, was heavy, bad on juice and back end happy!!!

I hate all this intentional rat ****e, as said these cars have survived decades and get butchered to suit some gash current trend. :(
As for fast old skool Vauxs I think Red Victor 1 has set the bar!
Its only an old Vauxhall, buy one a Rat Rod I say. IMO if you want to do it, go for it.
the brabham viva's had 2litre engines, wide wheels & black bonnets, back in the mid sixties..
they pre-dated max power by decades..

get a vaux ventora then i had one a few months back will make a capri look economical lol

Complete with Matt Black bonnet and Champaign Mk2 Astra Leathers, Hydrollics and a 2.4 Rekord injected motor. It is cool as funk.

yea i think the rat look is a load of sh*te personally aswell ruining perfectly good cars that should be getting made concourse not the other way around!!!

All old skool vaux's/opels are rear wheel drive, most upgrade parts seem to come from manta's, if u buy a small engined old skooler.
I would have to say if your asking such a question, then u maybe dont know enough yet to take on an old vaux and then modify it. Maybe try to buy a bigger engined one first time then you wont need to mess around with it too much.
Mostly v8's and c20Xe's are finding theyre way into old vivas/kadetts/mantas/ chevettes,.. see www.retro-rides.org (http://www.retro-rides.org) for many projects.
Most of the projects ive seen on these cars are indeed rat-looking so i wouldnt worry too much about that; its a look they do pull off..

GT hb viva had 2.0 engine..
brabham hb viva was an 1159cc 'hi-power' engine..

Like every aspect of modifying though there are some **** half ****d examples, wrong cars etc that give it a really bad name.
As I have said before, natural rat is ok and understandable, but I bet before it became the 'in' thing, the owners would have loved the time/money for a full dip - some probs still would lol

put decents paint on it and it looks like it was built to look pretty parked up in a field. Look at it now and you knows what it was built for... Charging down a strip.
