Anyone know anyway of getting around having to have a cat test? First registered September 1992.

Car was originally a 1.2i and now has a dispack 2.0 16v in.

think anycar registered after 8th augest 1992 has to have a cat unless you know a friendly mot tester

stick it in and worry about it if it fails, I doubt they'll notice, I think it goes on when it was built anyway, Sure Novas dont get tested

After August 92 registered needs a cat. And they'll notice when it epically failed the emissions test.

They always notice, as soon as its k-reg they automatically put it in for a cat test unless it has a carb engine.

Lee, as i said at national day, you will probably need stick a cat on unless you can blag the tester and say its a 90/91 engine...

It has 90 stamped on the cam caps as I have replaced the head but don't know if they will go for that.

when i got my gsi years ago it was standard and on a 92 k plate, and it never had a cat and with the xe in it i proved it was a old 20xe, and they have to test what ever is older car or engine it might even pass if its a clean engine

Hard to prove the age of the engine though. Don't think it will pass a cat test as its a real high miler.

whats the code stamped on the block at the front next to the gearbox as if its 20xe it was never ment to have a cat

C20XE, its a dispack engine so definitely a late one, removed it from a 94 Calibra myself.

lol Used to be able to get away with that but doesn't seem to work nowadays. If I knew where to get them i'd have a double buy for the LET and XE.

i got told august pre august 1992 doesnt require one but there are two emission tests
