now i know this is a nova site but just wondered if any one has either done or has seen a redtop in a ford??

ive got a nova with a 2.0ltr 8v in it and just bought a cav gsi2000 (redtop) and dont really want to change my nova so im toying with the idea of either putting the redtop in a mk2 escort, capri or a mk2 fiesta??
i know they can be put in mk2 escorts as i have seen them in but they are getting dear to but a clean 1 so i was thinking of a capri or a mk2 fiesta.
if any1 has any info such as engine mounts RWD gearbox, or front shafts to ford hubs?? please could they tell me what they know.

or if any1 has an idea of a car to put the engine in whats your suggestions?

thanx :)

Daewoo Lanos, if you're stuck for ideas to put the engine into :P

Bit of a street sleeper me thinks.

Take a look on youtube, the conversion seems to be quite popular with the Daewoo boys, must be something to do with a GM link in the engine bay area.

I know of a couple of LET engined Mk3 Escort's. A LET engined Feista and an XE'd RWD Mk1 Escort.

can buy a bellhousing that mates a XE to a type 9 bout £250 though.

Currently bolting my 450-500bhp let together thats going in my Mk2 Escort.

I'm using a xe to t5 bellhousing which is £165

Xe is a expensive engine to tune these days and IMO if its going in a Ford you would be a fool to use one considering the figures a Duratec can make.

Let is a LOT cheaper than a YB to build though which is why i chose to go down that route

mk2 escort XE conversions are done all the time.

i have to agree 100% with Jonlem re the Duratec, plus it keeps the Ford theme

Duratec FTW on the Ford Scene.

On another note, theres a complete running LET on eBay with a BIN of £900 ;)

If your building a atmo engine and putting it in a rwd Ford then simply use the duratec, massive power for peanuts in comparison to a xe.

£900 for a running let aint bad but you wouldn't find me paying that for one unless it came in a running car !

XE's find their way into most of the 60K + Mk2 Escort Rally cars in NI and ROI.

The Daewoo LETS are propular with an NI chap known as Carmad. He's doing a 4x4 Lanos soon.

Newer builds are starting not to use them, overpriced and heavy.

Duratec is alloy and the crank will do 9500k so if you choose to use a xe your throwing money away.

Aye but over here everyone has 2 XE's in the corner of their Garage and they're tried and tested and due to so many failures theres plenty of spares if you know where to look.

Yep can't agree more with that, exactly why I'm staying GM as I have the spares

lol

NO!!! They're too soft and for the effort required a Cosworth or XE would be cheaper and as powerful in standard form as a tuned CVH Turbo.

I see. I dont doubt it but, I've heard its not possible.

I've been Sireea and Escort mad before i got the Nova Bug and it is possible. The 1800 Sierra was a CVH engine and the blocks were almost identical and as most MK2 Use Sierra Getrag Boxes from bigger models, Sierra Shells almost always being identical apart from 4x4 models, should mean the 1800 box will fit into an Escort with relative ease and I'd imagine its just a matter of fettling with the Sierra engine mounts to make the CVH fit in. Locate the IC etc and you're flying. The bay is big enough to clear a Turbo as mk2 Scorts have been fitted with Rover V8s for years!!

My mate just got his Mk1 running with a 200bhp Fiesta turbo lump, but he was told it wasnt possible. I just wondered.

Think it'll be mag featured soon.

Sdouldnt be much of a job if you know your Fords. Be a nice motor though....

CVH is a different choice, certainly not something I would consider doing.

I can understand why, but I'm sure it'll be reasonably quick when finally on the road.

i just got the cav very cheap so i was just weighing up what to do with it as i just wanted something different, i know the duratec will be the way forwards but its buying one and spendint money on it.

ill just see what comes up im not in no rush for out as i have my nova so its just a project car really and it'l be done when its done he he :)

cheers any ways lads :)
