View Full Version : Anti-virus programs?
It's that time of year again when if have to renew my anti-virus. Now I've tryed a few over the years and they all been total bolx. Any recommendations?
So far i've used:
Norton:roll: lol
Trend Mirco PC-Cillin
McAfee
and something else which started good and then fell apart.
Most seem to start off fine actually and then after about 2 months my PC gets slower and slower and ... you get the idea. I've heard good things about AVG, any news?

AVG FTW. Its all ive ever used and i doubt ill ever buy a brand name one like Norton. Well recomend it mate.
8.0.169 is the version im using btw.
Im using norton and virus wise I've had no problems but my pc is now ridiculously slow, didn't think norton would have done that, ive just put it down to having a large porn storage! lol
AVG Ed8 or Kaspersky 2009 are the only products I would install on a home system.
AVG do a free license for home users which is even more of a bonus.

all about avg. download 8.something from www.download.com
i also use a version of adaware for getting rid of some crap
i tend to run along with avg, the others always seem just far to intrusive and slow systems down on their own merits. although i always run this alongside a regular check with spybot and adaware for good measure

I have used the Free versions of AVG for years and years on various computers, and its never let me down or impacted performance.

NORTON IS THE CAUSE :thumb: im using avg and spyware doctor. norton got deleted and my computer is 10 x faster
I've also been using Norton and 360 and found my laptop started to run slower over time and been told they are the cause.
I have been recommended Avast which I will move to once 360 expires.
Excellent, cheers for the replys. Thats the kinda answers I was looking for.
Brains - You actually managed to uninstall Norton! I found bits a pieces of the program dot all over my HDD months after I uninstalled it!

This may explain why my old laptop that my mum uses runs so retardly, she recently had a new version of Norton installed
Think I'll be removing norton from mine and trying out AVG free :thumb:
Yes, do! AVG has sorted my PC out a treat - I can actually listen to music AND surf the web at the same time now! lol
I use virgin broadband & their free anti virus, it works very well on vista.
every couple of weeks, after the kids have been loading games etc, I use a program called registryfix. it cleans the registry up & helps speed things up.
I have a password for how to fiddle the free download if anyone is interested....
Norton sucks balls, AVG 8 FTW :) Its all i have used for 4 years now..

i use a business version of Mcafee, which works fine and never slows my machine. But AVG is good.
Id get Avast and steer clear of Norton/McAffee definately
Personal opinion of course.
