Next weekend I'll be fitting a modded head, twin 40s and an AST2 cam to my 1.3SR. I think I've got everything I need, the thing I'm not sure about is what else I need to replace when fitting the cam. Do I need to change rockers, followers, that sort of thing. I don't want to be changing things for the sake of it if the existing stuff will be OK, also if things do need replacing I don't want to be fitting uprated items unless absolutely necessary.

Cheers

If the old rockers etc aint worn, re-use them.
If the lifters are noisy, now is the time to replace/clean them.

Thanks for that.

Will I need a spring compression tool to change the rockers, bearing in mind I'll have the head off.

Are rockers also called followers?

Not if youve got the head off.
Only the headbolts hold the rockers/lifters

followers/rockers both= the bit the cam lobes actually move on.

Lifters are really quite easy to strip down and clean, no reason not to do them whilst it's in bits unless you have new ones waiting to go in.

If the cam is new make sure you follow the running-in instructions that should have come with it.

It'll only rev to 7000rpm - at least thats what the rev counter says........;)

How do you clean the lifters then? Not really done any work like this on a car before so imagine your explaining it to a :tard:

Also the cam isn't new, but has very few miles on it. What is the running in procedure likely to be?

Chances are it's all ready been run-in then, so shouldn't need doing again.

lifter cleaning is explained in the haynes, basicly pop a collor off the top, seperate the inner from the outer (don't lose the spring, shim and ball!), and clean any carbonised oil off with strong degreaser and a toothbrush. If I had a decent camera I'd do a how-to with some of my spare ones.
