I've just removed my rear drum to fit a new handbrake cable and it left part of the bearing behind. Is it okay to just refit the drum or will it need a new bearing?

I assume it's worth fitting a new one but just thought I'd check.

Thats normal. They're tapered bearings, and thats how you fit them. Unless you've had odd noises from it I'd just refit the drum and torque the castle nut up correctly.

Oh it is? The other drum came off with that piece attached to it.

It should pull off the stub, if it looks ok stick it back in the drum and make sure the seal goes back in too!

Mine used to stick like that despite being new, turned out the stub itself was worn to an oval from previous bearings wearing out and sticking, Didn't cause any problems though.

But from that pic those rollers do look a bit tired (dark bands on them).

I replaced the drum and tightened the nut and it's not making any funny noises and spins freely. Would you recommend I take it off again and refit it in to the drum or should I be okay as it is?

One part of the bearing will come off with the drum.
Just refit it with the drum and nip up the bearing nut(not tight), just enough to not give play, but not so much it starts binding the wheel rotation.

Yeah I've done that, made extra careful it wasn't too tight. But I left the bearing on the shaft as pictured above and put the drum on, will that cause issues or not? It still spins nicely.

Should be fine, but keep a listen for noises, because the dust shield etc has come out too, so the bearing may not last that long.

Should be sound if everythings gone back into place when you tightened the nut up :)
