Inlet manifold powdercoating

Didnt know if this should be in here or styling, so feck it!

Whats the crack with powdercoating inlet manifolds? Im sure i read somewhere in keiths WIP that it will damage your engine but couldnt find the page.
Also thinking about doing my cam carrier, this damaging aswell?

just make sure that you dont have the internals and gasket mount faces covered too

Is a cam carrier the same as the followers? Doesn't sound wise imo.

The cam carrier is the metal box the came sits and turns inside.

Never known an engine to have a carrier separate from the head before :)

Dont see a problem with it... I guess the concern was about sand or media being left inside after sand blasting or something???

Yeah more people paint/powdercolour the cam carrier than leave it plain when building an engine.

Cool, just a very different design to anything I have at the minute lol and I never done anything bar servicing to my 14SR.

I used to have the inlet powder coated Yellow on mine. Still have it infact.

However the issue is with any stray powder coat or blast media being left inside any of it which could write off your engine.

I blasted my inlet & although it was sealed off at every hole, I spent about 5 hours getting shot deposits out of it. As for the cam housing, it will definately need to be coated as when painted I found oil just ran between the paint & alloy & it lifted too quickly & peeled off.

If you are very thorough & understand the risks, I am sure you can do it properly.

If you dont, simply read up the hassles on MIGweb between Nemesis & Muppetsport....

Can't see a problem getting either done tbh, as long as there cleaned propperly after being shot blasted and that the internals of the parts your doing don't get powder coated as well, then you'll be fine.

No problem with it if it gets flushed well and is not coated on the inside!
Im getting loads of my parts done on my escort cosworth at the mo (inlet/plenuim/cam cover etc etc) using a place called vulcan

They can do awsome effects etc, and have done many parts on cars so know the deal with flushing etc!
