Are there any DISadvantages to running a mega light weight fly? Im looking at buying my flywheel next but cant decide which one to go for?

I run a standard XE flat type on thats been lightened from 7.9kg, to 4.9kg iirc.

Obviously there isn't so much of a disadvantage to a track car, but in general, the lighter the fly, the jerkier the ride when not hooning it, as the engine will loose enertia at a damn quicker rate.

So should you boot it up to 7krpm in 2nd gear, and the just let your foot off the gas, you're head will probably go through the windscreen similar to if you slammed on your brakes lol

PS: always wear a seatbelt

You may have to increase idle speed as well :thumb:

you also run the risk of warping the fly if its TOO lightweight
Uphill starts will be a pig
etc

more so if you have a powerful cooling fan/high load electrical stuff that is switched at idle.

No real gains to be had from a mega light flywheel though really, so begs the question, why bother?

Likely to bog down under standing starts etc aswell, so not so good on a drag strip.
