c20xe f16 cr 5th gear problem

I've got a c20xe and a f16 cr box. I can't get 5th gear. If it is going into 5th there is very little difference between that and 3rd. I haven't driven the car yet.

sounds like linkage tweaking is needed to me.

make sure the white bit is flipped 180deg and use the drill bit method to set the linkage.

Is reverse difficult to get? Also, how is 1st to get?

White bit is flipped. First I couldn't get reverse, so used the drill bit method, can now get reverse but not 5th. 1st has always been okay.

Have you only just done the conversion? And did the shell used to be a 4 speed? In which case, i would bet its the little plastic tag on the gearstick which is stopping you selecting 5th. Take the gaitor off and check where the stick makes contact with the shell on the rhs of the gate.

Yeah i've only just done the conversion but it isn't the plastic tag because I cut it off.

How slack is the linkage? I've got a few spare if you want me to send one with Kath or Brian tomorrow?

I'd imagine the bushing in the linkage is shagged. Best take a look and see if its worn.

If you can manually select 5th,by hand, on the box. Then its definently linkage adjustment.
