Headwork, cams, bottom end, inlet, exhaust etc etc etc etc basically a ****load of moneys worth or parts

cosworth pistons, head work, big lumpy cam with solid lifters, custom engine management

MC

Modified cylinder head with enlarged valves

Cam of about 285deg (piper etc) with standard lifters

4-branch exhaust manifold and free flowing exhaust sytem

Either Twin 40DCOE's or standard inlet and mapable engine management

Possibly an overbore with standard pistons

look in features for Dan or Jims 1.6 8V builds.... basically the best 1600 8v's I've driven.

If you hunt around for used parts, can be achieved for well under £1k.

worn rings... biggest loss of power going.

I think there is a 1.6 8v tuning guide in the articles section. Some of the tuning info is a shade out of date but the basics are still rock solid

***EDIT***
Page two of teh articles forum, 1.4 8V tuning guide and "fitting a 1.6 8v + 40's" are both excellent guides.
I've also got a 1.4 8V guide in my sig link.

basically the 1.4 and 1.6 should ideally be tuned in the same way (but obv a little less power/torque for the 1.4)

have you got a redtop fitted? if not STFU ;) and if you do have one still STFU unless you have some useful 1.6 8V tuning info to add ;)

lol lol

i have dans engine(i cheated and bought one already built and tested/proven:D ) and from my knowledge the spec is:

1650 Rebore/ Pistons,
Skimmed block face,
Flywheel lightened and faced
Full dynamic engine balance,
Blydenstien b+ head
Helix paddle clutch and cover
kent ast2 cam
twin forties
1.4 sr dizzy/coil
btb exhaust manifold manifold
Facet redtop fuel pump
filter king regulator

and i "think" its about 140bhp but it was tuned with torque in mind aswell when dan had it setup.it pulls well and the twin 40 noise is  but bear in mind that if you go the twin 40 route they need to be setup by someone who knows what they are doing!and they love petrol lol

bollocks lol. We managed 35mpg on a nice bimble back from Anglesea once, and I think the same again on a few trips back from Velos too lol.

iirc it was a very similar build to Jims (ie BP300 deg cam etc) but whith the Injection inlet and DTA or MBE to run the show.

Insurance fronting and not declaring mods is stupid.
If you arent bothering to declare the mods simply stick an XE in then..... or simply die a slow and painful death for being a scumbag

put it this way, 140 hp in any nova is a handful on a top quality road, & especially for a beginner on rep. of ireland local roads.
you would be much better off with something like a 1.3/1.4 to start, then you can add the brakes (a must), suspension & tyres, then fit a better ratio gearbox, finally sticking a bigger engine in. not only will you survive for longer, but you will be used to driving a nova before learning to drive a very fast nova

As far as i remember he ran just shy? although the biggest disappointment for me was the torque, be it down to mapping or just the build i am unsure and will never know the truth but he was running about 20lbft down on what the rest of us were which is a mile away

FAIL!!

Being Irish based, as I am, XE's go for circa €700. A propper conversion kit costs well over €450 and someone to do it will charge as much as a rebuild on the 1600 engine.

Aaron, I'm telling you this now, dont tune an engine without declairing the modifications. Wonder why your insurance is so high, its because of people like you not declairing mods, going out boy racering and stacking their cars into someone else. And dont say you wont, because you've no way of knowing whats round the next corner and at 17, I dont think you'll have suitable skills to get yourself out of danger on the roads.
