Which Novas came with a 4spd box?

Always wondered which models (Mk1 and Mk2) came with a 4 spd gearbox?

Would a H reg Mk1, 1.2 have one?

Possibly........ Most/All early 1.0's had a 4sp Along with some 1.2's.
The lower spec'd 1.0 and 1.2 Mk2's came with a 4sp. I can't b sure on which trim got you which box tho.

My 1990 H Reg 1.2 Fling has a 4 speeder

been told early mk2 1.2s were. 5 speed box came in with 1.2i (spi's)

Mines a 1.2 mk2 Carb on a J Plate and its five speed. I think it was the early mk2s which had 4, and of course all the 1.0s

I've got a 1.2i K reg Expression and that is 4 speed - and i really hate it!! Was thinking of putting in a 1.4i but cant imagine what it would do to my insurrance!!!!

what are the disadvantages of having a 4spd instead of a 5spd then? Only just learning to drive, so not too wise on this stuff yet! :oops: :)

Depends on your point of view.
A tuned motor will usually work better with more gears cos the powerband is within a closer rev range, but a bigger capacity motor with a lot of low end torque can cope with less gears, big yank v8's regularly have only 3 spd auto boxes.
If you have long legs, a 4spd is better cos you won't keep banging your left knee on the stick in 5th.

i have an e reg 1.2L mk1, and its a 4spd

The newest brochure I have is for 88 models so not sure what happened after that. Up to88, all 1.0s had 4 speed boxes (not even a 5 speed option)
1.2s had a 4 speed box as standard but a 5 speed was an extra cost option.
The 1.3 and the SR had a 5 speed box as standard.

The fuel figures show that you get about 3 miles more to the gallon with the 5 speed box and lower revs when cruising at higher speeds.

I have a MK1 1.2 Nova Merit on a 'G' plate and it is a 4-speed box.

I had a mk2 92 J reg 1.2i which had a 4 speed box. I think 4 speed boxes are generally faster through the gears, which means you can rev more in each gear and thus change gear faster. 5 speed boxes are a bit slower through the gears but are much better at high speeds eg motorway driving. I would say if your doing lots of round town driving stick to the 4 speed as they are quite nippy off the mark. If you are going to be doing daily motorway driving i consider a 5 speed. ;)

The gear ratios are identical between the 4 & 5 speed boxes, its just 5th added in as an extra ratio.

I though it was to give greater driver control/pleasure and 5 is a better sounding number.

Along with trucks with 3sp autos my dads jag has one too, weird, especially when hooked up to a 5.3 V12, you need your seatbelt on when it changes gear.

I'd liked to get a 1.3SR as I really like them, and they aren't bad in standard trim and I know they come with 5spd gears (better I expect with a bigger engine), otherwise any other models I'll just have to see which they come with. Will be using it quite a bit hopefully when I'm passed, necessary for living in the countryside!

my Mk2 K reg 1.2i merit plus came with a 4 speed box, it was an F10.

I have got a 1.6 in it now with an F13 though.

I have got a MK 2 1.2 'Flair' (J, 1992) and it has a 5 speed box. My car is done up to the boll***s, but my mates 'J' reg nova has a 4 speed box and it pisses all over mine in terms of acceleration.
