As a few know, I'm on the lookout for some shafts to use on a redtop. I have bought a few sets of shafts only to find out they have 28 splines on the inner cv end. I've just read the haynes manual and confused myself! Should I be counting the splines on the shaft where the inner cv joint fits (into the gearbox), or the outer cv joint? Here, have a read!

you want the shafts with 22 splines on the inner bit of the shaft not the cv where it goes into the box

you want to know the number of spline on the metal shaft :)

It should be 22 splines on the shaft which will have a nova cv joint on one end (for the wheel end) and the other end of the SHAFT needs to be 22 spline.
The 22 spline shaft will go in side the cav 1.6 small block gearbox cv joint.

All nova outer CV's are 28 spline I think. The inner end needs to be 22 spline to go into the mk2 cav 1.6 inner CV.

I think i have made it clean enough which bit he needs to be checking as i use the same 22 spline shaft that he is after but Dar had mine made for his car so are bigger.

im a bit confused aswell. in the haynes manual it says its the outer CV's are different, not the inner, as shown in the picture on the right of that text. The picture shows boths shafts being 22 spline on the inners.

All nova outers are 28 spline. Corsa 22 spline shafts on the other hand are 22 spline both ends, but are too long for a nova.

I have two sets, one are definently nova gte, as ive fitted the mk2 cav inner cv's. They still have nova outer cv's so i cant count the splines on that set of shafts.

Im 90% sure my other set are 22spline both ends though, will check that tomorrow.
I hope there not because i want a spare set of shafts, just incase.

You will struggle to snap them really, I keep snapping the shell rather than the shafts!!

yeah the snappin the shaft myth is a bit of a myth, ive never seen a driveshaft snapped, seen loads of cv's stripped though.

Same here, blown a couple of inner CV's to pieces but never seen a snapped 22 spline shaft. Seen quite a few snapped tapered ones though.

lies all lies, i snapped a shaft in a 1.9tdpug and the shafts are about 7cm thick, all tho it had an adjustable ebay boost twisty thingy lol
