Hi ppl,
im in a bit of crappy situation :!:
Other day an old guy decided to smash into my car :x , driver door - completely denting it in, smashing the window and denting the chasis! (inches away from me)
Insurance company sent out a guy from my nearest body shop - he says most deffinately a right off! But he also says i could buy the car back if it gets written off, buy a new door, hammer out the dents to the chasis and Get an MOT to see if its legaly road worthy!!
If i were to do this a) would me having a written off car send my insurance up? and b) even though it was the old guys fault, even though he hasnt admitted liabilty yet  will this send my insurance up?? and c) what happens to my existing insurance policy (with adrian flux) as its only a montha and half old??
So am i buggad for the next few years insurance wise or can i claim, fix my exsting car and carry on as i was before the blind git smashed into me?
Some advice would be gratefully recived!
Cheers Alan
cant answer until somebody is blamed really.
what wer the circumstances etc?
as long as its his fualt your laughing all the way, if its your fualt your gonna get it from behind good n proper. Mr insurance man will be rubbing himself up ready!
if its the old guys fault then his insurance will go up - his company will pay for the work - unless hes third party fire n theft iun ewhich case you'll have to claim on your no claims (I think!)
If you claim then you lose yer no claims
If you have no no claims and claim then your insurance will go up
If it was your fault then yer insurance will prob go up
If he doesnt cough up or gives duff address details (like happened to me once) then you have to claim and it will go up.
Buying yer car back as a werite off wont increase insurance (providing not your fault) but you will be on a q plate and q plate cars are reserved for kit cars, write offs and used by dealers/pimps (so I'm told - never touch a q plate car - specially if modded in my area!!! :o ) - wont go up but the resale will prob plummet - not too bad on a nova mind cos theyre dirt cheap anyway!
:D
As long as your not to blame and hes fully comp, you shouldnt see an increase.

It was the old guys fault!
All the evidence i have, photos of place of impact point to him being in the wrong so in theory it should come off of his insurance!
So i could fix it meself, get me car road worthy again and me insurance wont go up based on him takin the blame, ehich hopefully will happen!

even if the old guy was tpft he's still pay for your damage ade
the tpft just means you dont get your own car fixed if your to blame
as for buying it back and reregistering it
if i were u i'd buy it back and break it for spares
and use the insurance cash to buy another nova

Thats wot i was planning to do!
But my dad bought the car, and i dunno if hes gonna be an arse and keep the cash! which means i have a broken/written of car and no cash to buy another! :(
never knew that about tpft - cheers arragon - makes sense I suppose.
Bummer about yer dad being an arse.
Get yer nove fixed m8 - any spare cash mod it!
at the end of the day - yer not gonna get much when you sell it anyway Q plate or not - novas are unfortunately old cars and unless you do some mentally superb mods and drop a decent engine in it - ?1000 will be top figure for most "basic" modded novas.
Look on the bright side - at least you have "your" car back - and it can be fixed. if its yer 1st car it always means more to you - I know mine does (even if it is runing like abag of spanners at the moment :( !)

cars dont get registered on q plates anymore.
a written off car that has been repaired doesnt affect insurance, the only thing thats different about them is that they are registered as previously accident damaged therefore affecting value of the car.
repairable write offs are only written off because they are beyond economical repair using new parts.i.e a new door fitted and painted for a nova would cost more than the cars worth....viola....a write off
if your insurance company offer you to buy back the car it will normally cost around 30% of the pay out they give you, you could then repair the car however you want.
