What model nova lowering springs do I need to buy to lower my Nova?
And will lowered springs be able to handle an xe conversion or shall I go the whole hog and get uprated shocks and stuff too?

Xe's usually require uprated springs and shocks, able to take the extra weight, if you want it to really handle.

The bottom line is you really want both, on any version of a Nova. As std they are awfull & body roll is bordering on rediculous, the std shocks WILL be shot & any lowering will soon see them heading for the nearest skip.
If you have a small block engine go for a decent matched kit from KONI or Bilstein etc. If you have an XE or similar you have to use much stiffer springs suited to the engine weight & some sturdy dampers from Bilstein (B8's) are regarded as the best.
If you want to get into track work or have it handle like a go kart (applies to smallblocks also) then choose coilovers but be prepared to spend further into tweaking about with different springs & what not to get it how you want it.
Dont think you have to have coilovers though, they have become 'tendy' or 'must have' & its not true. Just buy the best you can afford & dont buy the mickey mouse brands if you can help it.

I want something decent but dont want to have to remortgage!!!
any suggestions?
oh and WILL A HATCH SETUP BE OK ON MY LOON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
Hatches and saloons share the same suspension so thats no problem.
Not sure about spax but avoid gmax as they suck, courtenay sport do custom springs for the 2.0 conversions, I run them with the bilstein b8 shocks and they're perfect for fast road use.
If your on a budget you can always buy 2nd hand, my shocks were.

cheers peeps, got a rough idea what to go for now :)
lol gmax, name sort of says it all. one advantage of coilovers is that you can run slightly wider wheels, there are coilover kits on ebay from £210 think there from germany, if there made there the build quality will probaly be good, im going to get a set for my loon and see what there like. will let you know
