Just wondered if any body else was in to this.
Ive been racing for many years now and have noticed that to compete it was just getting more and more and more.
Then last year at my local club a few of us got together a took are tamiya mini.s along.
The thing is if there are 4 or more cars turn up then they will make a heat for them.
With this in mind we set the rules to standard motors/no chopping loads of plastic off the chassis and kit size tyres/wheels.
For the first cople of meets there was just the 4 of us on track for some very close racing and a much more relaxed theme to the day.
By the end of the last season there are 3 heats of mini's with up to 7 cars in each of the heats.
Any way this years season kicks off next month so thought i would get me car ready.
This is the car that i started with last season.
Over the hole time i have been racing this is still my fav pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/chunny01/smrcmccpics1054.jpg
But as the car and shell were well over 10 years old it had a reshell to this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/chunny01/DSCF0040.jpg
Then was reshelled in this colour.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/chunny01/Photo292.jpg
And that was replaced at the end of last year buy a brand new car.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/chunny01/abod%20gte/190820081188.jpg
Which was the purple swift in this pic.
So that was it and was well happy with how it went last year.
So after a few hrs yeasterday i had built this years car up and over this year i have bought far to many bits from Japan for it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/chunny01/abod%20gte/Ebaystuff019.jpg
It's now running alloy or carbon fibre parts along with adjustable shocks alloy gear shafts instead of steal a light waight body shell that was sprayed up for a small cost and well out of the spirit it all started as last season.
Nevermind thats racing for you and sure i will do more to it over the race season.
Wish me luck and thanks for reading all this.

Thats a lossi aint it ?
I run a x-ray team for dry a tc3 factory team as my wet car and a hyper 7 21 nitro 1/8th buggy thats well rappid.
If you know any body after a blody quick and strong nitro car let me know as im trying to sell mine at the mo.

surely someone could knock up a mould to vac form a nova shell

Ernie
20-08-08, 10:45 AM
The swift has a full KOPRO set up (reciver/servo) and a Harra twister e/s/c.
There are a set 4200 nhmi.s in there and a amb transponder.
I think this little thing has cost more than my track car to build lol.
As for a nova shell i have 2 at home but thay are both to the wrong scale for what i race.
As for cost of racing £3.50 each time you race and £40 a year for membership which also make's you a member of brca so i can race at any track in the country with insurance on my rc car incase i hit anybody with it.

I made a 4x4 mini out of a cut and shut tamiya and still works fine to this day.

I race a swindon and kemble from time to time.
I did the schumacher btcc a few times and had a great laugh.
Ive also done Maxbashing a few times with my Hyper.
7ft of air and landing it is a great laugh.

Cool but i can see th centre one to the rear diff and no belt between them ?
As for lipo's that is on the cards for this year as could do the hole days racing on one batery.
Also i tryed a brushless mamba in my 1/18th scale blaze.
It was like a on/off switch with no brakes lol.

It looks realy good fun and ive had a few Rc cars, had a nitro monster truck and a really fast Subaru, ive often wondered what you had to do/what spec you needed to enter the events. Is there a website??

burgo
20-08-08, 11:07 AM
indeed. the belt is abit hidden lol. you can program brushless for all sorts of braking characteristics when you know how and for the price of lipo its rude not to

There used to be a gathering of RC Racers at out Local Adli every Sunday for Race Days. They actually got a lot of Positave Press as well. They were all petrol poered ones as well so ****ing flyers!!

Ernie
20-08-08, 11:10 AM
Well the Blaze would of hit about 40+mph which for some thing that would fit in the palm of your hand is bloody quick.
As for my nitro the hits in the region of 40+mph across nearly anything and that thing weighs a tone and made of metal and can brake things lol.

Andy
20-08-08, 11:10 AM
Mine were probably not as fast as yours lol

Andy

35-40mph maybe, the truck was heavy but it flew, you could do donuts with the subaru lol

As Burgo said that the best thing to do.
There are many differant classes to race in so they would find one you could go in.

I had a Mardave Meteor back in about 1989 (a battery buggy), then went on to have a Tamiya Mud Blaster (monster truck) & when at Uni me & a mate bought HPi RS4 Rally's each.

I nearly bought a Traxxas buggy on ebay last month, missed out on it sadly. But have been meaning to get something to play with. I cba'd with nitro though, too stinky & i just prefer the simplicity of electric cars> I've always wanted to race them but theres no tracks near me in this sleepy corner of the south west.

Ernie

There is a big onroad track between brean and w/s/m on the back road near to the railway track if you know tha road im on about so not to far away from you.

i've got around 10 cars sitting doing pretty much nothing, need to start using them again soon, used to race the 1/12th hotrods a bit, might start racing them again next year, heres one of my hotrods with a Nova body-

had this sitting for about a year and did nothing, thought i'd better get it cut out and painted a couple of months ago, arches were marked out round, but i cut them out as close to the shape of proper 3dr arches as i could get.

just after being painted, not even got all the window masks off-

I used to race alot about 8+yrs ago at GEC Stafford track.
I was pretty good indoors on the carpet track.
Raced fair bit outdoors also at Stafford, Wrexham, Bedworth etc.

I do still have a RC10GT Nitro truck below.
Dont really use it much anymore if anybody interested in it???

I always said id get back into this if the 'real' car became too expensive lol. I do miss it a lot.

Went through a load of cars. I ended up with a YZ10 super dogfighter. Hell of a car that was. I was speaking to Christian about this the other day actually, when I left the scene, 2000mAh batteries were just coming out. The power the latest ones are putting out now boggles the mind lol

I rekon I could easily get back into it and be reasonably competitive. I used to manage to keep up with the 4wd boys with my Schumacher Fireblade, even taking FTD ahead of them sometimes :) When I was racing on carpet, that was unheard of!

Mardave! - brings back fond memories!

I did a bit of indoor carpet racing when in school, had a Mardave Cobra electric buggy and then an RC10. I was much better with the Mardave for some strange reason. The club shut down so I had no where to go, that's about 13 years ago!

I've got a Tamiya TA02 chassis with a merc shell on it somewhere in the loft, might dig it out :D

Mardave Cobra

LMFAO.

I used to race one of those. I was banned though seeing as I was running a 12 turn in it, which was overstepping the mark as far as what the chassis could handle was concerned. I lost control of it and barrel rolled it into someones immaculate CAT 2000, obliterating it completely lol

There was an optional chassis on the parts list that we all got, it was blue, I think the standard one was yellow? I can't remember why but the blue one was better, I think it was something to do with the battery being in a better place with regard to weight distribution. There were some guys with carbon fibre chassis too!
It was far from standard, different shocks and an electronic speed controller in place of the dodgy mechanical one. Our rules stated we could only run a "stock motor" but there were plenty to choose from and the car seen many different ones.
I used to love painting the body shells, the good old classic "drip" design lol

A cheapy tamiya or kyosho basic kit will be about £180-200 with all the radio gear, fast charger, and a half decent battery... something nitro a bit more, but you can run that until you run out of fuel or break it pretty much, no vauxhall nova shells around as far as i know tho

For a Nova bodyshell, the only Novas i've seen have been 1/12th scale, Mardave v12's are 1/12th scale, basic and cheap :D I had a modified motor running 7.2 volts in one of mine, went like fook!

Got a TL-01 tamiya 4wd chassis hiding in my room somewhere, and a thunder tiger nitro 206 sat in the garage, neither have been run up for 3 years, maybe longer!

Entered a couple of race with the local club when I was about 12 with a bear-hawk, soon realised it was gonna take a couple of hundred quid just to stop coming last though! (back in the days when 1700scr's were the latest packs!).

altogether my gear was about £500-600 when i set up properly, and that isn't a shade on what my mate spent on touring cars... 2 cars, 1 indoor and 1 outddoors so the indoors is not running slower on grit etc inside, £750 each just for the cars with some shiny add ons

I bought this when I was up at uni. Spent a stupid amount of money on it fixing it after every hi-speed crash, cartwheel, etc. Killed the engine now from running it on 25... ron? or something - the airplane fuel lol

I Run on 25% byron fuel
really good stuff but there is now going to be a 40% rise
in the price of model car fuel as of the end of this month

so racings going to become even more expensive

Ash
04-10-08, 12:09 PM
Thats it 25% nitrometh! I did fly, quite literly, for about 10mins and then just died. Never got it going again lol I thought or was told 25% was more for planes as it made the engine run hotter (lean?) and you needed hi air flow to cool it down again....

MK999
04-10-08, 12:19 PM
the race engines take the abuse fine, runs hotter because it's a bigger bang with more energy, iirc you actually have to richen up the higher the nitro content to compensate for the heat and get the engine in the working temp but i haven't raced nitro for about 4 years now.

Trouble is on something like that it's not as well built etc as a decent quality engine, and it's not moving quite as constantly if you're not racing it, also needs to be tuned properly to get the maximum life out of it, which is a fine art even a lot of racers don't get. :)

I've been indoor electric racing about 10-11 years now, everything from mardaves > 10th touring cars > Tamiya F1's, and currently racing 4-cell 1/12th scale - most stuff really..also got an MGT for a bit off road fun :)

cheers for help i may now have a go lol i have had it about 3 years

MK999
04-10-08, 02:58 PM
some of the spec is a bit 'salesman' really tbh lol e.g "engineering polymer suspension" LDPE is an engineering polymer, use it for lenor bottles. :thumb: looks like ABS on that to me, really shiny plastic with a real 'click' to it if you flick it? "disc brake with twin steel pads" kinda like saying nova with 2 caliper disc brakes with steel discs" ! ball bearings is a good sign though, bushes suck big time lol and the engine doesn't look too bad, doubt it's as gutless as my old tamiya

Most of the guys in our club fly the planes on 10%, im using model technics irvine 10% most of the time

For the buggy im currently running model technics big bang 20% with sical, goes good enough :D

Trev, the schumacher uses a thunder tiger pro .21 same as whats in my EB4, just a different cylinder head!

a good website for spares neones?

Nutty Nova

umm a good site for spares is hard to find
best thing to do is to go into a local model show and get them to order the part required.

My old man owns a model shop
no 01531 632189
if you need anything he should be able to help with most parts
depending on how old the car is mind

Well i went racing yesterday and endded up still holding 4th in the microtec championship.
The main highlight of the day was a friends car caught on fire after the speedo burnt out.
All that we were worryed about was the carpet so he grabbed his car to run it outside as i grabbed me side cutters to cut the battery wires.
Once outside all sorted and he bung an old speedo in and got on with his days racing.
I also took my home made 4x4 swift out with it's drift wheels on for a play.
It was running a standard 540 motor last time but was much better with the 19 turn in lol.
It's like the differance between a 1ltr nova and a well sortted xe on t/b's.
