View Full Version : Fuel gauge senders?!!!
Hi,
I've got a fuel sender from a 1.0 tank in a return Carb tank (1200 carb upwards).
My fuel gauge isn't working. I took out the sender and got a mate to watch the fuel gauge as I moved the float up and down (as it would with petrol level). It worked this way.
So my problem is, that the sender doesn't actually work whilst in the tank, but it operates fine whilst out of the tank.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Much appreciated.

What dashboard you using mate ?
I have a standard sender in my Nova 1.2i and the GSi 6-dial dash always reads off the scale lol
A bit annoying sometimes - Any cure for that as well ?
leeboo i would surgest checking your float doesnt have a hole
Ah yes I should have checked the float, I didn't pass any remarks as the float looked like a little solid balck block, so it s still hollow is it?
Thanks
the float arm could be fouling in the tank, or the earth connection isn't very good. also, the float & resistor could be worn in the position that it sits in the tank with what fuel you have, so it gives a poor reading, but when you manually move it, it will read differently.
Not really sure what to do with it then. It hasn't happened over time, Its only been since we changed from 1.0 tank, to return tank. I looked at the sender (just on the tank) on my mates 1.2 carb, and it looked slightly different?
Well if the earth connection was bad, then would it not give dodgy readings outside of the tank too?
Almost seems like its fouling tbh mate? Just wondering are 1.2 carb - upwards senders, different to 1.0 items? It had been reading half a tank constantly (with only about 10 litres in the tank), so I took it out yesterday and made sure it was in at the right angle etc, now it just reads empty, despite there being about half a tank of petrol.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!
