Hi peeps,
I have recently purchased a 3" stainless steel back box for my 1.2 Merit and it sounds pukka..... the only problem that I have got is that it is quite noisy from inside the car. Is this a standard problem with fitting a performance exhaust to Novas? Is there anything that I can do to reduce the amount of noise from the exhaust inside the car?

Cheers
Pikl

Sound proof your boot floor. You loose a lot of sound from an ice install through there, so probably a lot comes in too.

LOL @ cambridge..... so I take it that you have got a standard exhaust on your Nova  :?:

Yeah, I thought about sound proofing the boot floor as this is where most of the noise is coming from. Would you recommend just putting dynamat down on the entire boot floor?

I take it that no-one else has got this problem - either that or they like to hear the exhaust note as loud as possible from inside the car....

Its all dependant on the type of back box you go for, some are louder than others. It also could be affected by the number of boxes you have in the whole system. Some have 2 and others have 3, obviously the 3 box systems are quieter. You may have a 2 box system on yours and could think about getting a third added if its too loud.

lol m8 I had the same problem as you - I fitted a stainless 3 1/2 back box - I even fitted a k&n so I have grunt from both ends! Well rounded but loud!

I recommend Aquaseal flashing tape from B&Q - about ?20 will get you a massive roll that will help soundproof the boot area.
2 layers all over the boot area will sort it - you'll not totally remove the loudness but then thats why you fitted it - right???

I like going through thr Clyde tunnel, roll the windows down and change down a gear to accelerate away fast - hear the zorst note boom around the tunnel! Well smart! 8)

Cheers Ade, I am glad to hear that someone else has had the same problem as me. I love the sound of the exhaust - which is exactly the reason why I got it - but driving around at 60-70mph I just want to 'numb' down the loudness a bit......
I will take a trip down to B&Q asap and grab some Aquaseal flashing tape......
Cheers....

Dicko - they come in different sizes - the HUGE big fcuk off rolls that will do yer car twice over are ?20 or so.

The smaller ?6.98 rolls are good for panels but I found I used 4 of them all over so prob work out getting a bigger wider one. Depends on yer budget

its not ?20 if you swop the barcode label off the ?6.98 size ;)
