i want to re shell my old gsi, shell is rotten but ive had it for about 9 years so i want to keep it going,
the shell is way past saving, but if i re shelled it into a 1.3 mint shell i know for, is there any way i can keep my reg and keep it as a gsi on the log book?

Depends on the age of the donor, if its newer than your GSi yes, if not then No, unless you ring it.

GSI is a k plater and i know for a k reg sri and a f reg 1.3 both have good shells,

Possibly go onto the SRi shell if its newer than your GSi, the F reg is no chance.

Cut and swap the vin plates.. Not really the legal option but the simplest..

If you happen to 'purchase' a very good quality, primered bodyshell with no visible vin no. on it, it could just about be legally classed as a replacement shell & would be acceptable.

can you get shells with no floor numbers?

can you get shells with no floor numbers?

Not anymore

Car needs to be MOT'd to take the plate off and put on retention.

There are more ringers on here than you could ever imagine so i wouldnt worry about it too much.

id rather do it legal if i can theres no way of geting around the flot numbers anyway ive put a grinder through the originals cos im scrapping the shell i dont like scrapping them with the numbers still in them,
it'll onl cost me £50 to get an mot anyway, i can have one off a mate dont even have to take them the car lol

Ben

well TBH its going to cost you a fortune to even get an MOT on that shell if you have ground bits off, so chances of you getting the plate off are very small.

i know someone that does hooky mots theyre all genuine so would be ok to get the plate off i wouldnt risk driving with one tho just in case

It is known that sometimes the DVLA request the car to be taken to the local office to check everything is correct and in place, even more so on older vehichles as your not the only one who knows an MOT tester, not trying to put you down everytime just trying to make you aware so you dont waste your time.

Nothing wrong with buying another mint shell and re shelling it then as long as both the id's are in your name imo. Then change them over so you have an original gsi.

People do this day in day out with mk1/mk2 escorts and ford happily remake vin plates for restoration projects without may questions.

As long as you do it Properly (still not legal but what is these days) lol , with both shells in your name and have matching I.ds how can they prove that you havnt replaced the floor because it was rotten?

If you hold the V5 for both shells and you swap part of the 'ahem' floor pan then scrap the original duff shell it might not be legal but morally its not really a big issue..

I would personally remove the old stamped floor plan and restamp a fresh bit of metal.

Oh look what stamps you can buy on ebay these days...

Ben

LOL he hasnt got much choice to fit new stamped number as put a grinder throught the old ones!
