Right after driving a BMW M5 the other day ive deceided that my trusty 40's dont do it for me anymore. I want speed and lots of it.
I have been contemplating putting a bigger engine in for ages but think its about time to do it.

Problem is do i just go for valver or do i try to put a turbo in ??

Im not worried bout getting the engine in, its the wiring up im gonna have problems with :x but id give it my best shot.

So 2ltr 16v or 2ltr 16v turbo???? thats the question.

If you live local and have experience doing these conversions let me know or any other helpful things..

Cheers Slatter

I'M IN OXFORD AND HAVE A VALVER. SIMPLE TO WIRE UP....JUST CHECK OUT WWW.VALVERS.COM FOR GOOD GUIDE.

DON'T THINK THE TURBS IS ANY MORE COMPLEX TO WIRE IN

u considered a 1.6 16v? on TB's or turbo'd?

it wud be agood bit quicker for the same power methinks due to the weight difference

plus it would still handle nicely unlike the bigblock engine

It makes me laff the way people go on about the 1.6 16 valve engine been good, if its so good then why are all corsa owners fast to get rid of it? Rick

I would go with the 2.0 16v turbo if u want fast, can be tuned to around 250bhp-300bhp if u have the money for it and that will make it fookin fast the 2.0 turbo is 220bhp standard (I think) andy bishop has a 2.0 16v turbo and said he got it up to 145mph and it was still pulling !!!!

NOoooooooooooooooo...don't do it Slatter!

You're gonna miss the sound of them carbs snorting away. Plus, I don't wanna s**t on your idea, but I raced a friend with a Standard 2.0l Nova and he couldn't keep up. I have a 1.6 with twin 40's. Ok, he might beat me in a straight line, but accelration wise, he couldn't keep up.

It's up to you and from the sound of it, your mind is made up. Such a shame so many people are going for 2.0l conversions :(

It looks better too. Lift your bonnet - and there it is! Like a big cock. Nice.

rick..........
i challenge you to a race when my throttle bodies go on :)

and we all know corsa muppets know nothing, they simply wanna say 'i have a 2l 16v in my corsa'

iv seen a 1.6 16v with throttle bodies racing a 220bhp 2l 16v nova turbo, there was very little in it and that was on the motorway from 60 upto 135.

I do agree that a std 1.6 16v isnt much faster than a GTE/GSI engine!!

Much like you and your women then Micky

1.6 16v waste of money your looking at thousands to get any half decent power out of it same with 8v

slatter wants quick cheap big power so go for the 2.0, check your insurance see what diff it is for both engines. you could get a 16v for about 300 but looking over 1000 for a turbo.

and dont listen to all of them about 1.6 8vs staying with 16vs lol theyre nowhere near as good as a 16v :p

oh and if you disagree stop being pussies and get to the trackday and prove it

Exactly ian.

I dont want to mess about machining the engines anymore ( well 4 a while )

Want standard power no hasstle... these 40's are doing my head in a bit now...

2.0 16v turbo is the only way to go if u want power and speed !!!!!! go on get the conversion done you know u want to !!!!!! get a dump valve aswell (just for the noise)

id like a turbo... ive always wanted one,..

But im listening to my mates..

They say if i got one id kill myself in it, which would be very possible

not sure, roughly the same. 16v is easier to to whack in than tuning an 8v, so i agree with Ian.

I don't know what the rivalry is between 8v's and 16. your gonna get more bhp from a 2.0 16v than say a 1.6 8v because they have 50bhp up as standard.. its common sense

and yes a highly tuned 8v will keep up with 16v or possibly beat it, but do the same mods to the 16v and it won't funnily enough!

Its so cheap to do a 16v conversion these days anyway.

lol @ all this "i have a faster car than you so ner" talk

you said exactly what I was gonna say Breeny

What I was trying to say Slatter is that you might go and stick a Standard 2.0l engine in to find it's just as fast as your current engine specification. Ok, you can then mod the pants of the 2.0l, but it's a lot of money getting big power from it.

Each to their own I suppose, but I'm happy with my 8v's. It's better fun seeing the looks on peoples faces with 16v's as you blast past them :)

Jim

P.S. Breeny, my car's faster than yours :P

Apart from no one knows whether you're driving an 8 or 16 valve, do they? Even if you change the badges and etc.

The answer is simple - ask 1 or 2 peeps with valver conversions to let you have a go and see for yourself?
