Thanks for the cool comments everyone - really, really appreciated.

I'll be honest, I was a bit worried shouting about it. It's been seen a lots of times before, the mods we're doing now aren't anything really new or fantastic and it's just getting a spruce up. I thought everyone would be bored of it by now - I almost was!

The progress so far has been a week off work and nine says solid on it. Lee Hersey has done the hardcore work, Jason Hudson has been the electrics wizzard and Chris Sturgeon has been involved too - a real team effort.

The doors are a bit scabby, to say the least, but I think the old bucket will hold together for just a bit longer yet. The aim is to throw it round Silverstone at Trax to see if it holds together. If it does I might be tempted to do a few winter mods to keep me busy.

If anyone can help, I'm on the search for a strut brace to fit around the Irmscher air box. Any ideas welcome!

I'll try and keep the updates coming until everyone get's bored of it!

Great car John, never lose faith.

I was saying in Lee's thread on MIGweb that I still have loads of cutouts etc inmy scrapbook from the max power & Redline editorials.

The interior looks fab with the black carpets & mk1 dash. The seats look as new also. Crack on!

i remember seeing this car in max power issues years ago, owned by one of the writers/producers of the magazine, that this one ?
save yer money and mod your current brace id say, if u cut it at one or both of the weld points and extended the centre section a bit, re-weld & a lick of paint, it would raise the angle of the side bars and make clearance.

thas why keep it ! lol second thoughts tho, looking at the first pic in post, im not sure if youll be able to close the bonnet down on it, if u raise the angle too high, hmm..

I'm in denial! Sturg and I got over excied with a spot weld drill bit he knocked up...

I've already moved the wiring and water bottle hose into the passenger footwell.

Not fussed about keeping the strut brace, so an SR one might be the way forward. Steel ideally... with an FPR bracket welded to it...!!

Features could be a missleading term, it was regularly in Staff cars and had a few 'features' in sections such as when Huets kitted the stereo out etc.

Il dig them out and scan them if i can.

Jon, good to see F173KVR has never left you. Good going mate. I still have all the Max P features where you did a massive Phoenix Gold in the boot. I also remember you told me binning the install returned much better lap times - result!

My Nova's are still with me as well, but being mortgaged up to my ears doesn't really help in putting them back on the road. No matter what, they're staying with me so I can lovingly restore them. My girlfriend Ellen loves the Red Shed as much as I do - need I say more?

All this old skool banter brings back priceless memories of hooning our Nova's round Silverstone (including blowing up the one freshly rebuild X16XE engine and finding a graveltrap is quite exciting at slightly increased velocity), getting repeatedly hammered at Billing, the unforgettable PNG trip to Zaragoza, Spain (that was back in '98 when the Red Shed was a wonky old 1.2!) where Walshy had to miss out, much to the amusement of a certain mister Watts, numerous visits to Bernie and Andy AKA Novatech in Slough and so on and so forth. I miss it.

Anyway, over to you Jon. Get her sorted and give her some stick round Silverstone. Oh and mind that graveltrap will ya! :D

Wow! I'd just finished secondary school when I bought that mag IIRC.

Love the original TSW Hockenheims on Pete Neals black GSi. Wish I could find a set now.

It still looks really fresh. Anyone would think it was just built.

What was the storage method ? Sounds technical

Well done Jon in getting it to Trax - You really should have cleaned the bird-s*it off the bonnet though lol :)

Where am I going wrong then? My garage is well ventilated, not damp. Yet my Nova managed to rust further despite not getting wet for nearly 5 years!

What's the difference between Hockenheims and Hockenheim R's???

Is it just the shape of the spokes?

Hockenheim spokes are like a Y shape and the R's are straight iirc mate

Awesome to see this car out and about mate :D

I'm trying to source a set of Hocks phase 1. The face of the phase 1's were flat, the hock Rs had a lip. I cannot find a pic of the phase 1 at all, I'll see if i can scan one from the 1993 ripspeed catalog i have.

The spokes of the 'R's are more open & gappy. They looked better when they were launched but harking back to old skool, the original Hockenheims just look ace.

I remember seeing Mr Walsh's car in Max Power back in the day, think he'd had his one off exhaust fitted, a centre exit magnex jobbie.

Jesus all this reminising is making me wish i'd kept up my membership from when i originally joined in '99

K95 VHD and A5 NJC were my favourite Novas of all times, where i take my inspiration from, i saw A5 NJC driving through stavely/Mastin Moor near where i live many moons ago

great cars

ive driven a bus round the Nurburgring, but id be up for takin the nova when its finished

Awesome thread. I was buying Max Power before I was old enough to drive and this was one of the cars that got me interested in Novas.

I have this in my head: did the original iteration of the car have a sound system by 'Huets'?

Yes it did.

See my post a few pages back \/ \/ \/

Features could be a missleading term, it was regularly in Staff cars and had a few 'features' in sections such as when Huets kitted the stereo out etc.

Il dig them out and scan them if i can.
