Should have another nova rack on the way too.

So next month, my bro and friends (You know who you are) will be ripping into my baby

Airbox looks good in there.
Does your bonnet shut with that corsa washer bottle?
Ive got one for mine, but i couldn't get it sitting right. It would either touch the wiper linkage, or the bonnet hinge would hit it when shutting the bonnet

Washer bottle was a piece of piss, i had to put it half under the cover for the heater, mine is dead close to the hinge but its miles away from the wiper linkage lol

Tested one of my coilovers today, only one as i couldnt be arsed changing both and then changing them back again as ive got to use the car tomorrow morning to leave for aussie.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1330.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1331.jpg

Could have gone lower but i couldnt be arsed getting the jack out and the camber was so bad the top of the wheel it wouldnt sit inside the arch, and if it would go lower the wheel would have recked my wings.

My last update for the month, my brother will update using my account or his with progress of the pas/corsa brake setup etc.

Comments please.

Make sure my brother and bmw156 look after my car while im in australia.

Got to buy some bits but nothing bad. Still yet to rip off the cambelt cover. Going to fit a WR gearbox after a lot of umm and arrr'ing.

Should get the engine in friday providing i get the 5dr and brake lines sorted tomorrow.

Anyone know where the reducer is on the corsas for the rear brakes? Or a cheapy cheap adjustable one?

Happy days :p
Edit: Wrong acc and cba to change.

Well, so much for the engine being fitted today. Rain stopped that.

Did get half the brake lines sorted out, just got to make 2 more lines and fit the corsa servo etc.

Noticed the engine's flywheel end oil seal has gone so got to sort that. Might get done when its in the car and have the box off again. Simply so everything else can be sorted.

If anyone fancys giving a hand please do lol

Essex Kid
26-01-09, 06:27 PM
Massive thanks to martin again.

Replaced the flywheel seal (as it was shot and for piece of mind)

Engine is now in after a lot of farking about due to the engine not lining up right. A combo of my massive jack, smaller jack, martins medium jack and the scissor jack from the 5dr plus lots of kicking, swearing and moaning.

Rear engine mount isnt bolted up yet but il sort it tomorrow.
Alternator is hitting the chassis leg but hopfully will clear once the rear mount is up.

More work completed on the car today. Recived exhaust and fuel pump today too.

Engine is now in, car is now rolling but need to get some nuts and bolts for things ive lost :tard:

1.6 Rad is in, lower arms, tie bars and driveshafts are all connected. Exhaust is sat in place but il bolt it all up tomorrow with a genuine gasket. Got the pedals back in, and gearstick out so i could cut it for 5th gear. Old spi fuel pump out and new one sat in place (Il bolt it up tomorrow). New alternator belt on.

Kinda annoyed as i planned to have it running by now.

All the wiring is done (Dod if you read this catch me on MSN) which wasnt as bad as i thought. Fuel pump etc is done. Just the final few parts that are holding me back (ECU, fuel hose to engine and rad pipes).

the engine the eco out of a sport corsa???

if so i know the local scrappy has one in but not sure whats left

AlexW
11-02-09, 12:21 AM
Has to have the ECU, keychip and the transponder from around the barrel. Hence why i havnt been searching the scrappys, as most of them dont have the key :(

Saw one earlier, but had the engine removed, and the ECU was there, just not the key :( Even when i asked they said that they didnt have it :(

But if the fuel lines are there (Engine connections to wherever they connect on the lines on the corsa) i might be intersted in them if i havnt found any tomorrow.

AlexW
19-02-09, 06:50 PM
Do you know why yours does it? My brother reckoned it was to do with the keychip missing?

Southie
19-02-09, 06:58 PM
Not sure why mine is doing it!!! Thing is with mine it's a C16xe so doesn't need the chip for it. I've got my mate looking at the car at the weekend to help out with the ECU flash codes, so I can sort it.

I have a feeling though it could be something to do with an air leak, as I have change the crank and tps sensors, got a new pumps/fuel lines and fuel pump relay is working okay.

Whats yours doing???

AlexW
19-02-09, 07:02 PM
Well mine starts fine.

But the fuel pump cuts out and the car just dies. No ECU light yet so havnt checked that.

I havnt got the lamba sensor done but as yours is having the same problems i doubt its that on mine? as C16XE's dont have lamba's because they have the airflow meter?

Wiring is all correct on mine. Did think that it was the fuel pump relay, but we by passed that and it still did the same. Still yet to check everything.

I realised after ages of cranking that the HT leads were around the wrong way and that the fuel pipes were on backwards too lol

Once it started i was so excited, and then it cut out

Yer if i find out what it is il let ye know. I doubt its the lamba sensor on mine tho, afaik they only come on once the engine is warm, but atm the car dont even know that due to no rad hoses

Meh

AlexW
22-02-09, 04:11 PM
Yer it does, you havnt seen the amount of cutting i had to do tho lol, at least IMO it looks better than cone filter.

Well today i did a bit more work.

The old 1.2 spi engine loom has gone, just need to find a use for the left over Ign lives and perm lives.

Ernie
23-02-09, 06:46 PM
Getting there.
Wouldnt it be better just to fit an airbox from a nova sri as the one you have cut up will just let the filter wet which aint going to be to good.

AlexW
23-02-09, 06:47 PM
I want one, but they dont come up offen and when they do they sell for **** loads. and its no worse than a drilled airbox.

Well once again im updating without the engine running!

Today i pushed ahead with redoing the underseal in the arch/surrounding area.

Started off by looking like a very normal but dirty arch
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1510.jpg

I picked up my tool of choice (Ignore the saftey bit, its not removable)
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1511.jpg

A few mins later:
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1512.jpg
Where i realised i had holes!! Only a couple of small ones though, but enough to make me want to remove the wing

Hmmm Brown!
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1513.jpg

Not too bad, barly cleaned it up
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1514.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1515.jpg

Only other bit of rust i found, no after pics tho.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1516.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1517.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1518.jpg

Another bit of rust i found. Its not too bad and i treated it good.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1519.jpg

At this point i had treated all the rust (i forgot to get pics)
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1521.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1522.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1523.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1524.jpg

Tomorrow should see the wing re-fitted and maybe the rest of the arch sorted.

Enjoy, Comments please.

Should of sprayed it imo

AlexW
30-03-09, 01:19 AM
That would have cost. Im skint :(

Its nice and thick at the front, its only at the back i didnt do it so thick, because its under the inlet. When i get a powerbox il prob paint it black.

I plan to have my whole car/bay blue/black theme. Teh top inlet i was going to polish, decided to do it black now.

Novaboi_1991

Southie
30-03-09, 01:33 PM
Tesco value buns FTW lol

It should look pretty good with the blue black theme but don't go OTT with it in the engine bay. May look a little overkill :D

You better not be finished before me you :wisewood:

AlexW
30-03-09, 02:08 PM
I just drove it!

Il get some pics up later of the bay, although its still a mess! Im hoping my exhaust will come tomorrow and then i can crack on with driving it!

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1564.jpg

Oh and my bodge of today.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1565.jpg

AlexW
30-03-09, 08:30 PM

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1571.jpg
How they should be.

Ive bodged it for now, but im going to have to find a SR downpipe (problery easyer), change the exhaust or just bend the new bit so it fits better.

Not sure what to do yet.

Plus the car is out of fuel, getting fuel soon.

Meh

AlexW
02-04-09, 06:54 PM
Filling it with feel makes one hell of a differance! lol No more missing and a better idle for some reason lol

I put a bit more of the dash in, il have to rip some off it out so i can fit the speedo cable.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1574.jpg

I picked up a engine cover and a oil filler cap, also refitted my strut brace.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1575.jpg
Im going to repaint the cover with miami blue. Leaving the black bit.

The exhaust i need to tweak lol

Been bumming the car again this morning. I acualy started this last night but the rain and dark put a stop to it lol

I bodged the arch before as i was skint lol. But now im wanting to put my skirts on its an ideal time.

No before/during pics only the couple i got a couple of mins ago.

I did make it fit better after these pics too lol

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/hpim1613.jpg

I think im going to have fun with the inner bit, which i plan to do the outside and then cut a bit of the repair panel leftovers and bend it to shape.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1612.jpg

And finaly one of the car as im a pic whore :p
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1614.jpg

Im just having a cream egg and then il go back outside and get it all welded up and sprayed (in primer untill the weather is better) but il problery strip it all back when i do the topcoat.

Hopefully it will turn out alright.

Steve
11-04-09, 03:18 PM
That repair looks alright mate, is it an actual repair panel you cut it from or did you fabricate that bit yourself?

AlexW
11-04-09, 05:17 PM
Proper repair panel cut. I also used another bit of it to make the rear section.

Ive finished it now, im going to cover the inside with undersealer and paint the outside.

A job for tomorrow.

Like i was saying earlier, i needed to finish it. Now i have, although no during pics. I need to give it a skim of filler and take the paint back again (only paint i had around was miami blue, just while i took a trip to get some primer.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/hpim1617.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1618.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1616.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1619.jpg

Im not going to be using the car (once again :( ) due to a oil leak (flywheel seal :( ) and im waiting on a few parts.

Car is pissing me off now.

AlexW
12-04-09, 10:34 AM
If all the bits had been together before the engine went in then it would of been a quick project (i think).

I think im going to be removing the sump and doing that gasket when it turns up. And if that isnt the source of the leak il be ripping out the engine and box again.

In thery it should be a 1day job to get it out and back in. Meh

And NBC, i cant eather lol

AlexW
12-04-09, 08:10 PM
Now my arches are finished i decided to crack on with the skirts!

Firstly i tested them on both sides (didnt get a pic of passnger side)
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1620.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1621.jpg

Then after treating them with black stuff. I tried to fit the passenger side errr.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1622.jpg
I got that bit in place but the glue ****e seems to take forever to set. So ive left it a while and intend to inspect soon.

Just a couple of pics to show off the finished arches.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1623.jpg

Much better idea to actually rivet the clips to the car then clip the sideskirts on - That's how mines are done anyway :)

Good project mate, do you think it will make PVS ?

AlexW
13-04-09, 11:51 PM
It was easy :D And 3spokes are more man than your stupid wheels.

And like i said, i wasnt happy with the skirts, they moved too much and stick out from the car! So basicly didnt stick.

Meh

So yesterday i started by ripping off the gearbox, checking the clutch (still fine) and popping off the flywheel to find this:
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1642.jpg

Cleaned it all up, and put everything back inc the box.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1646.jpg

Then slid the engine under the raised car and left it overnight.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1647.jpg

Bit low i think
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1648.jpg

This this afternoon i got it fitted without using a hoist as i couldnt be arsed waititng around.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1649.jpg

Im off to finish putting things back on soon, but im knackerd lol

Well happy :D Even though im planning on selling, and may have sold it to a mate

Jay
15-04-09, 06:56 PM

AlexW
15-04-09, 10:43 PM
Jay - 1k

Steve - Its preety much finished. Ive sorted all the little problems now. Meh

Cooltiger - STFU ;)

Benn - O well i was told (coming from a guy who does this sort of thing for a living) That as long as there not buggerd and there coverd in locktight then not to worry.

Bit late now anyways. My gearbox hasnt got a acess plate.

Southie
21-04-09, 02:13 PM
Is this sold yet or have you kept it :D ;)

AlexW
21-04-09, 02:13 PM
Even though im thinking of selling ive got to keep myself busy and try and get the little things done.

After yesterdays drive finding out how rubbish the suspension is, i had to do somthing, so while i wait for my coilovers top spring seats i thought i would throw on my lowering springs. I was under the inpression they were 40, but im now thinking 60?

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1658.jpg

This is the cars bad side.... Dents, rust and the only 3spoke without a centre cap :(
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/HPIM1659.jpg

Any idea how low you think it is?

AlexW
21-04-09, 02:14 PM
lol NBC...... I was soooo much quicker then you lol

Southie
21-04-09, 02:29 PM
Looks like its about 50mm drop at the front :D

Steve
21-04-09, 02:38 PM
60 mm I reckon. One thing I don't understand with alot of projects is people finish them then sell them!?

Isnt the idea of building a car the way you want it, is so YOU can enjoy it!? lol

AlexW
21-04-09, 05:40 PM
I think its 60 too, bearing in mind it will settle a bit.

Steve - I dont enjoy it thats the point, seeing as its ment to be my daily driver..... I never built this car to sell it, and didnt intend in selling once completed. But now ive driven it a bit and had all the problems, every drive is more a fault finding mission...

And speaking of faults, i tried to take it for a drive..... I got about half a mile :( Thing died on a roundabout and had to push it (with the help of a nice builder) and it wouldnt start again. Been down my mates workshop and couldnt find the fault, had to trailer it home :(

****ing car.

Benn
21-04-09, 09:14 PM
Looks much better dude.

Not good on it dieing tho...

AlexW
21-04-09, 09:35 PM
:D Ty benn.

Well, sorted the starting problem by changing the starter for a borrowed one. Mine worked fine on the bench so il clean it up and put it back on.

But the stalling problem is still there, it seems to have a slight rattle too, and a weird whine on idle... Meh :(

The stalling is weird, as if you come up to a roundabout for instance and brake hard without locking the wheels ofc, clutching right all that crap, im not a driving newbie lol, it will just slowly die, a couple of times ive saved it by letting the clutch up and keeping it running, or holding up the revs.

Going to flash the codes tomorrow, but didnt have a ecu light come on.

AlexW
21-04-09, 09:38 PM
Oh and nearly forgot. This pic is my new fav.

AlexW
21-04-09, 09:44 PM
Stfu, can still see it... Just. Just a shame that dent in the wing.

Southie
21-04-09, 09:46 PM
Did you fit the speed transducer to the gearbox. If not then this is why it's stalling fella.

Mine will be my daily driver soon but I will just get the aa out if it breaks lol

AlexW
21-04-09, 09:48 PM
Speed sensor is connected, hence why i thought it was werid the speedo worked. All the electrical **** is connected.

Im going to play around with it tomorrow, but i had to build a mr2 this evening.

Jay
22-04-09, 12:05 AM
Shame your selling.

Steve
22-04-09, 04:13 PM
A common fault with vaux engines stalling at junctions is loads of crap in the throttle body isnt it? Or something along those lines.

No idea matey, seen lots of novas with it, i got it for a tenner and no bugger all about it.

And if i get the right price il sell, otherwise il keep it. Deffo dont want to break it.

Back on topic, when you say it cuts out on roundabouts is that when its cold/hot or both?

Don't give up mate, that'll be mk1 and mk2 novas you've failed at! Modifying cars is never easy, would be boring if it was. Keep at it and you'll be happy you kept it.
