What work is involved in fitting a f28 gearbox into a nova? Do i need to do any welding?

Yeah.
Gearbox mount on chassis needs lopping off, and a conversion mount welding on.

Check AndyBishops/Lee H/Rick Draper/Simps threads for more info as i seem to remember them all having pics of where the mounts located.

Yeh iv just been having a look at simps saloon project. Iv already got a strenghening plate in there as i origianally plan on fitting a LET. so that parts done. Dont know if i want to fit the mount though, would mean painting my engine bay again. But i suppose i could mask the area off around the welds and just paint that, doubt it will be seen anyway?

Just drill out the spot welds on your original mount. Trial fit the engine with the F28 in and then weld the mount on.

You should be fine to "blow in" the paint around the mount without it being noticed :)

How noticable is the area in your bay with everything mounted?

I had ally blocks made, and done it like this, other people box section under the fron of the X member to lower them, but you have to lower where the ball joint mounts to also. Dont forget however long the blocks are you have made, you need that much longer bolts that standard. Dont forget what ever you lower the front mount by you must raise the bolt hole by where the bolt goes into the X member. Simply done by welding a plate onto the op of the tie bar itself with a hole in it for the bolt. Need any more pics just ask.

Mount is here:

ANd this what you can see:

Believe you me, just touching in the bay of the paint will be fine mate!

Also, I advise taking a sliver off of the passenger side inner wing, likr his, as I thought the box, was just a tad too close!

Cheers for the pics paul. Looks like this is going to be fun lol

What about cutting the crossmember for the turbo to afm hose, is this totally necessary?

Not that big a job really if your using a conversion kit, only pain is having to trial fit the engine & box to get the weld on mount lined up. Gear linkage isn't to bad to do, just a bit of cutting and welding, theres a few pics on here somewhere to give you a fair idea as to what needs doig.
