View Full Version : ne/seh identification
aside fromhe code where the head meets the block, how do you tell these apart?
i have an engine out of a calibra but the previous owner put te engine from a stolen recovered german opel cavalier sri 8v in it before i bought it, but the numbers have corroded away so im not sure what engine i have,

nE has lambda, SEH doesnt IIRC. Shine a light down a spark plug hole. SEH has small offset dish on top piston, NE has a larger dished piston crown.
The rocker covers are different also.
this has the lambda because it was put into the calibra using all the calibra wiring and ecu, the heads coming off tomorrow so i'll check the pistons then,
has anyone got a pic of an seh with the head off so i know what im looking for?

Get an old toothbrush and some vinegar and you should be able to make the engine number visible.
ive cleaned it spotless mate its rusted that bad i can hardly make anything at all out, it looks like 0000 toi me but i cant be 100% sure, its pickled me tbh

An SEH has a dish on the piston off centre.

They do corrode. I had to clean up the numbers on my replacement engine as the insurance wanted the exact engine number to declare the change.
