yes they do indeed, is it a matter of just connecting them to each other? but then how do i find the other pc on the pc i want to transfere from?

You need a crossover cable or a router. A normal B configered cable wont do it im afraid :)

Shame your not local, i could knock you one up, but youll probably find a dirt cheap one on the bay

I have a Netgear Router thingy lol

I know **** all about networking as you can see!

Its one of those Sky broadband jobbies lol sockets for 4 cat 5 cables.

Both of the pcs are using the intarweb throught this, one using the said yellow cable and another using a wireless usb thingy lol

Youll need to plug both pc's into the router, you should then be able to network them provided you have set the computers to share with other PC's :)

Or just get a 2/4/8GB pen drive and copy everything over via that..

Setting up as a simple workgroup might be more hassle than using an external drive or a flash drive to quickly copy data but long term it will be better to set up the workgroup properly.

Just run the network set-up wizard on both machines, making sure the network name's the same, and enable file and printer sharing, that should be all you need to do.

I could never get the network wizard to work (plus I wanted static IP addresses for routing purposes), although for some reason I believe XP gets a bit funny about LANs over wireless.

Right ive done that, but now how do i access the files from the other pc? I have done the same thing on each pc.

It sais this:

From the Remote Computer you should now be able to connect to \\SERVER_NAME\SHARE_NAMEWhere SERVER_NAME is whatever you named your computer and SHARE_NAME is the name of the share.

How do i do that? lol

In "My Computer" put \\computer_name\shared_folder (file://\\computer_name\shared_folder) into the address bar at the top, press enter, it will open up the folder for you to browse the contents.

Assuming you have shared some files on one or both computers.

Or take the HDD out of one machine and put it in the other. Copy files. Then put it back.
