noisy redtop

I have put a redtop in my nova a few months ago and it sounded sweet then the oil pump seized up since fitting another one its bin very noisy from the top end i have fitted another set of tappets and it still sounds the like a bag of spanners any advice greatly greatly apprieciated. cheers:thumb:

did you prime the oil pump before fitting mate?

The noise is probably a f**ked bottom end.
The pump doesn't just seize, get replaced, and all is good. The engine would have been running with no oil pressure, which has probably overheating the main/big end bearings, wearing them, causing the play/knocking you can hear.

UNLESS your 100% sure its tapping from the top end.
Could even be from the cams if they got starved of oil

One thing that can happen is the pressure relief valve can stick and basically you get no oil pressure. This has happened a few times after fitting an engine thats been stood a while.

when i stripped the bottom end down i had the big ends and mains apart as at first i thought it was the crank that has seized and they looked intact and not worn.

i have a set of didgi dials in my car what should the oil pressure sit at on idle and what will it reach at what revs??

At about 2000rpm it should be 3/4-full, and stay like that throughout the rev range.
At idle it will drop down to probably one bar above the red.

This is on a fully warmed up engine btw.

Cold engine should be full constantly.

My LET on a digi dash with no oil cooler obviously goes to full at any blip of the throttle and ive never seen it drop below 3 bars on the digi scale even after thrashing it. Thats on 10/60 oil

i should also point out that mine is tappety as **** even tho they are new lifters and the head has been rebuilt. So im not sure if thats good pressure? Thats might be the source of my problem, im gonna try some genuine lifters first and see.

my oil pressure guagesits at half on idle then about full when i touch the throttle then when i thrash it it goes way past full!

my gauge sits okay on idle but it wont get full pressure until im doing about 5000rpm so i wonder if i have got a lack of oil pressure thats why my top end is rattling very badly?
