depends on the rest of your engine eg cam, headwork etc. generally 4-1 for top end 4-2-1 good for mid range.

SR twin down-pipe set-up was good enough for me, after opening it out a bit with a rotary file.

4-1 is better for gains in Torque.

It still depends on an engines type also. Big block 8vs respond better with 4 -2 -1 whereas the smallblock the 4-1 works better.
