i think my internal fan is only running on tick over as it seems to be getting very hot and not speeding up at all like it usually does. anyone got any ideas?

most pc's will show you the fan speed in the bios ,

new fans are only cheap though fella

As a rule of thumb, if you can hold your hand on the heatsink comfortably, its not too hot, if you cant hold your hand on it then switch it off :).

My old tower/pc setup was overclocked mega and ran 6 fans lol

Most PC's will start to automatically reset if they start to overheat. Mine does it a lot (especially the graphics card lol)

Its currently out of its unit with the side off trying to cope with this stuffyness!

Access the bios by hitting delete on boot up. Be careful though :)

You'll probably get f**k all from the bios on a laptop. Blow some compressed air the wrong way through the exhaust when the laptop is switched off.

Have you tried placing in in Water? Not only will it cool the Lap Top but it'll warm the water. Ecofriendly or what?

Idling at 60+, or under load at 80+.

Id be worried to see 70deg under load tbh.
39c is nothing at all in the current weather
Id get into the bios and see if theres any Power options for controlling the fan, there is on mine "lo speed/hi speed/temp dependent(which also switches the cpu frequency down to keep temps lower)
I just run mine on hi speed permanently.

Laptops are to** for temperature control though, i cant use mine atm in this weather because the other night the cpu fan totally died due to the heat (i never realised), and only Sthe bios shut the laptop down when temps peaked at about 82deg lol WOOPS lol

Desktops FTW, 41c under load at the minute, but i do have a full tower case, and 6 80mm cooling fans, plus a 100mm beast sitting above the psu :cool:
Watercooling would always worry me, WHAT IF the unthinkable happens lol

I had 3 leaks in my old system, all 3 were "catastrophic", and each time after I dried the system properly it was fine. You can get nonconductive solutions now though for about £15 per litre (my old system only used about 800ml).

that 39c is the hard drive temperature. that speed drive doesnt pick up the cpu temp for some reason. all i know is it to hot to sit on my lap which kind of defeats the object of a LAPtop

Have you cleaned the heatsink and fan?

Blow some compressed air into where the hot air comes out. You find that a layer of dust clogs the fins of the heatsink right by the fan.

You'd be amazed at how a lap-top can fill its cooling fins with pet hairs, good idea to take the bottom cover off and give it a good blast out once a year really.

Try coretemp for the cpu temp if speedfan isn't reporting it.

I have to hoover the front of my tower unit once a month, it's all mesh with filter material behind it and starts to look fuzzy if I don't!
(coolmaster elite 330, 120mm fan in the front, same in the back and the psu has it's own 140mm fan!)

DOH my processor is a intel so that core temp should have worked. that one has worked tho adam and my cpu temp is 56c

Most laptops have it written into the blurb that comes with them saying how they're only supposed to be used on hard, level surfaces - i.e. a desk lol

My desktop idles about 55'c in this weather, dunno about when on load as I never bother to check it. I've got the motherboard shut off at 80 though I think.

We had the air con fall over in one of the server rooms on Monday. Opened the door and it was like an oven lol
