View Full Version : Mail Fail
RANT
WHY are people so facking gullable to STILL fall for those gayhat emails that they have to send to 9,000 people so that Bill Gates will give them $1,000,000?! He's tracking this email! It was on the 9:00 news!!!!1!!! No, it wasn't. Turnip.
Also on the subject of mail fail, some nobbin sent a 33Mb email round t'other day. To everyone. In the entire address book. Thats a good 400,000+ addresses. Exchange server says FAIL.
Then, to make it better, the next day someone in here forwarded it to EVERYONE. Again. Exchange server says DEAD.

Anyone who sends one of those should have their internet facilities immediately removed.

I love it when I get the "....has leukemia and this mail is being tracked and $0.20 from each time it is forwarded will go to the appeal"...or something similar. These are all obvious hoaxes so I just go on one of the many websites that list the hoax emails and respond to the email and all the cc's with the link to the item that shows its a hoax. People soon stopped sending me those kinds of mail :thumb:

Our college made the address book public at one point, so I sent an email saying hello to everyone with surnames beginning A-E. Mail server fail. They saw sense and didnt punish me because I was only trying to highlight the problem rather than break the server, else I'd have done A-Z :D.
Two of my mates hit reply-to-all though and instantly got their network access revoked.

I have always been a fan of the fake virus alerts.
...especially ones written in 13 different font colours, 72 point bold italic and using about 50 !!!'s after each sentence, telling of viruses that will format your hard drive, steal all your personal details, spend your moneys and turn your p3n1s into a turnip. You just KNOW those are legit.

The IT manager where i used to work used to forward those to all staff so we knew to look out for them!
A savvy guy. I fear he will do well in the world of IT management!

not fit. plays golf. supports liverpool.
Female and human. Ergo, an object of desire for a programmer. Nothing else matters.
Come to think of it, the "human" part doesn't always seem to matter to them either lol

true enough LOL
IMO email shouldn't be used for sending files over about 3MB, it causes too many problems.
I've put a 5MB limit on our mail server for internal and external. No exceptions for anyone, even MD's don't get special treatment.
On top of this all users are well educated and know not to send attachments to lots of users, we have other procedures in place for sharing files.
Exchange 2003 is quite good though, if you send the same file to a thousand users on the same server it will only store the files once. Jack, I take it your on Exchange 2000? or even worse, 5.5??!!!

I prefer to print the email attachment and distribute it in person.
