View Full Version : Speaking of old films...
Can anyone tell me what this film is? Been wanting to know for years lol
I remember it's 70's and American, a guy is teaching his younger brother to drive, they are crossing an 'intersection' when a car, Datsun 120Y IIRC runs the lights and t-bones them. Killing the younger brother.
The older brother then retrofits his (blue?) pickup with a bull bar etc and a load bed mounted harpoon!
He makes it his mission to either run boy racers/drunks off the road or harpoon them and drag them to a stop, all the while looking for the elusive black Datsun with limo black windows.
They finally meet for a showdown in a scrap yard and go head to head and hit each other, I think the guy in the Datsun dies. All I remember is an arm wearing a purple shirt hanging out of the window lol
This probably sounds **** but I seen it when I was really young and have always wanted to see it again lol
Any insight? :thumb:
Actually I typed that with my head up my ****! lol
I don't recall what car wiped out his brother, not the Datsun otherwise it would have been totalled lmao
HE comes across the Datsun when the guy is drivign pissed IIRC
havent a clue but it sounds so bad its good lol
Damn it man! That's not the kind of answer I want to hear lol
I have no more info! :(
Another childhood 'classic' I wanted the name of for years was Steven Kings The Langaliers, it was on TV in 3 parts some time in the 90's and it rocked.
I got it a couple of years ago. WTF how ****! The CGi is the worst i have EVER seen lol
At least this badass car flick doesn't have CG :D
Has anyone seen the film 'Driver'? The one the games were based on? Its bloody brilliant. Next to no speaking, just breakneck car chases. :)
Aye that's a classic! :)
Was hoping a fellow 'oldie' would know mine lol

Got it :D Downloading now lol http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3595799/The.Gladiator%5B1986.Abel.Ferrara%5DDVDrip-PsyCoSys
THE GLADIATOR, 1986 starring Ken Wahl
A homicidal maniac is on the loose, killing motorists at random in his "death car" - after losing his brother to the twisted assassin "Skull", Rick Benten becomes a vigilante, and takes it upon himself to hunt down the reckless drivers that fill the streets at night. Being a master mechanic, Rick spends his time converting his pickup truck into an armed and dangerous vehicle...
'86 man I thought it was older than that.

talking of old obscure B movies, you need to see Shaker Run. my all time #1 fave film ever! im 24 this year, and reckon ive seen it at least 2000 times. its main stars are pink/black chevy powered Trans Am - fibre glassed bodied rep on a holden chassis, and the Ex Brian Friend OCSA chevy V8 Capri (which gets stolen and driven through the window of the lupp jag dealer). 1st class car chases. you need it. see

original Driver is awesome! Firebird vs F100 at the end is cool.
another one worth a mention is Running on Empty - australian film about street racing, features an XY GTHO, a 71 Cahhenger and a 56 chevy. yet more 80s classless class!

Vanishing Point = best film EVAR
But if you think the movie is mainly about drugs then you don't really get it. Thats just a sideline to keep him going throughout.

Classic!! Car isnt supercharged though.
He his pretty much out his face for the last half, agreed the film isnt about drug use but it does play a big part, especially being set in the 70s. its a story about his spritual journey - much the same themes as Easy Rider
I think the police say at one point its supercharged, and either Argo or Kowalski say something about it being "hopped up" early in the film, but its not charged
IMO the ending in Vanishing Point is a lot better than Easy Rider. Kowalski makes the choice to stop running (as opposed to turning round and continuing to run as per the start of the film), keep his spirit free and in that respect evades capture.
Easy Rider, well they just get shot up by rednecks lol
added "The Gladiator" to my lovefilm list for "backup" ;)
If you like classic movies, you've got to have 'The incredible melting man' on that list. I saw this when i was about 9 and did'nt sleep for a week.
Gentlemen prefer blondes. I love it :)

Ferris Buellers Day Off.

you need:
Shaker Run (as said). Thundersaloon Mk1 Capri packing Chevy 357 V8 power - nuff said.
Highwaymen. Very similar plot to The Gladiator, buy the wepon of choice is a barracuda super stock.
Deuce Coupe (very very rare) 32 deuce coupe 'with a blower' vs a 55 Chevy. 60s high school coming of age film - great story with real cars.
and the original Mad Max, none of the Road Warrior sequal rubbish. the 1st one, Ford Falcons galore.
EDIT - all rare, obscure B movies - what this this thread was about.

Think that the film is used for the video for a song I can't remember the name of haha
What about 'The Hitcher'??

the original Rutger Hauer "The Hitcher" is excellent! he plays such a good baddie. steals a pretty cool pick up in it too.
The original Hitcher is cool, as is the original gone in 60 secs :)
Ferris Buellers Day Off man! What a classic lol
It features some of the statues seen at the end of the Blues Brothers, when they are in the IRS building I'm sure.

Blues Brothers Rocks. I've even got the soundtrack hahaha.
I watched the original hitcher when I was about 7 or 8 lol. The bit where she gets tied between the trailer and the truck....
Nice viewing for 7/8 year old lol I think I saw Nightmare on Elm St. 2 about then, damn that was scary LOL
Dude I have the Blues Bros. soundtrack too! Love it :) I can even stomach Blues Bros 2000 now, although I walked out at the cinema lol

Yeah its just about tolerable. I bought the special edition from tesco with the extended cut of the original film and 2000 in it. Thought 2000 was awful when it came out but is ok now....tell me whos that writin, john the revelator haha.
lol at the guy from Terminator 2 being in it
I love all those lonely road horror films, The Dual, Joy Ride, Hit and Run, Jeepers Creepers, the Reaker etc. Magic.

hence the "lol"
Right, will someone help me out on this one. it was about a group of white boy rappers from the midwest, with pimped out tractors, I only ever saw it on the trailers on a dvd rental...
Were you on crystal meth at the time Mowgli?
Sounds like a typical Ice Cube type trans america road trip though lol
I will find it & I have never taken anything stronger than Piriton......

This sounds good i think ill download it :thumb:
Ah! The Gladiator has a '69 Charger not a Datsun 120Y
A 1200cc doesn't sound like a V8 lol. In defence for my younger self, they do look a little alike from the rear, large lights and chrome. Good ole japs copying the muscle cars lol
A 1200cc doesn't sound like a V8 lol
Does when its 12ST in a Nova and refusing to start on all cylinders on a frosty British morning.
