i need some help joining 2 pipes together.
both pipes have cut off ends and are roughly the same diameter, i would arc weld them together, but dont have access to one, and i cant use a joiner pipe, cos one of the pipes has a bend in it an inch after the cut, i was thinking of using chemical metal but dont know if it will be strong enough for the job, if not, some sort of silencer repair piece, mullered to crap in exhaust paste and double clamped. if it makes any difference im joining the downpipe section of a manifold to the centre section, prety much directly below the sump. it would be good if i could find something i could jus wrap round and round the join to seal in the gasses.
can anyone shed some light ? cheers.

Halfords sell a 'exaugst wrap' i remeber doing this on a old field bike i had, simply wrap around the pipes let the engine tick over, untill it melts. after it's dry your ready to go. this is a 'tempory' job but lasted 2 years on my lil bike lol. hope this helps.

if you use arc properly you wont blow holes in it, if you have an arc handy you may as well giv it ago, just turn it right down, weld it up and weld a piece of steel across the join to avoud it snappin in half with the engine movment ect, worked for me a wile ago when i was in need of a new system and it lasted as long as it needed to, untill i got a replacment :)

But obviously you get wot you pay for so the more exspenseive it is the better it is.

Don't people use the old bean can trick any more???? Get a large can that will wrap around the exhaust 2 or 3 times a load of exhaust paste and some clamps or jubilee clips and put it around the exhaust bit like a sandwich roll!!
Not as good as it being welded as I'd reccomend but seen many a MK2 Escort with this holding on the cherry bombs :thumb: (ooppss I wrote about a blue oval sorry guys!)
