thought id see what you all thought of this

its a mini/austin metro based kit car, its called a sabre sprint, a very rare kit car, i owned this back in 2005 and sold it for small sum of £110 (well get to that in a sec)

basically, its a mini chassis, with at 1.3 metro gt engine in the front, and the WHOLE body of the car is made of fibreglass, so you can imagine how fast it is, its got metro gt seats, a mini clubman dashboard, metro headlights and by god does it shift!

anyway, i bought this back in 2004 for the sum of £50, not knowing what id bought, i had it for about 2 years and sold it to my dads mate for £110.. great a lofvely little earner

now the shock

i later researched about the car and it turns out its a very very very rare type of car (approx 10 bodyshells were ever made) and is worth alot more than £110.

ive tracked it down and its actually not been touched atall.. its simply been left to gather dust in a garage

ive asked if he would consider selling it and he said he might.. question is.. how much do i offer? not to sound to keen.. or to sound cheap.

im planning on making it mega lightweight, taking rear seats, passenger seat speakers etc out and making it into a track wepon for when im older.

heres some pics of when i owned it:

3years later and 3 years worth of dust.. as she is today: (note the bodged gearknob i made when i came to sell it.. still on!)

I never understood why someone would make a 2/3 scale mk3 escort & then stick something like a mini engine in it....... now a Hayabusa engine...

I don't see the point in getting one, unless you are about 4'9" & want to look tall in it.......

Bid him a ton. its the best offer he'll get.

mowgli
22-07-08, 11:36 PM
I need to ask you this...

WHY do you think there were only 10 made????
what does it weigh? because it is a popular myth that simply because it is grp, it must be lighter than a mini shell... mini shells don't weigh very much

draper

mowgli
22-07-08, 11:54 PM
i knwo there were.. i researched alot lol

no, the reason there were only 10 made is because they made a demonstrator & sold 9 others, which compared to the 5 million old minis that were produced, means that only 9 people actually liked them enough to buy one

Now answer me this:

Why do all kit cars have a dashboard that looks like a mantlepiece with smiths gauges badly leant on them, they are always trimmed in smelly vinyl & you spend the rest of your life trudging thru scrappers looking for a left hand threaded wadgimicallit for a 1974 austin princess?

considering the number of rotten novas about, why isn't there a nova based kit car (& I don't mean that sihtbox with the uppy downy roof & a vw engine)
the gm interchangeable parts are crying out for a really cool open to sports car that you can build in your shed....

Each to there own Dave but it make's the nova look like a thing from the futor.

Hi, 1 of 10. Keep it locked away and Ebay it in a few years. I bet it'll be worth a fortune. Ugly as hell but every bit as rare!!

23-07-08, 01:12 PM
Let him keep it, it looks gash & there simply isnt anything cool about anything Metro, at all.

If you kept everything that might be worth something, your garden would look like a scrapyard.

also; LOL @ using weapon & Metro in the same context.....

i think it'll be fast as f*** with a metro turbo engine or 1430 lump on 40s etc. it'll drive like a go kart on steroids. my dads had a few minis with tuned engines and f*** me they shift. shame they dont have 5 speed gearboxes (and those aftermarket jackknight ones are gash) 6r4s are the daddy, would love one

Only Dod has spoken sence in this thread Dave IMO.

If its as rare as you say it is, despite its uglyness and the fact it was built by old men at longbridge who were renound for forgetting to tighten wheelnuts or fit engines before selling their cars, there will be enthusiasts out there who may pay an absolute bomb for this thing in years to come, regardless of how ugly it is!

Buy it back, clean it, and mothball it! Then spend the money on a proper car!

but then i'm an ill man for that kinda crap lol.

if its rare rare rare................then its worth something in the long term.

its not a boy racer car by any means.................but i'm sure a few of the old todgers at the classic shows would be pulling the choke over something like that.

I say get it, make him a small but not pisstaking offer on it and do what you want with it. Personally I don't like the look of it but give it a few years and when you get bored with it it'll be worth quite a bit more.
