Ive got a round port injection head on my nova but i want to run it with a twin choke pierburg carb, what choice have i got on inlet manifolds? Do i have to use a 'cathedral' port one or do they do a round port manifold? as obviously a square port manifold would be no use to me.

why the funk do you want to run a carb on one of them heads?

Easier to revert back to the suited head.

Because the valves are larger in the injection heads

use the injection system too, what engine is it, what head have you put on?

Its a 1400 engine with a 1400 injection head, and i cant use the injection system as im using the car for oval racing.

can you not use twin 40's using the correct manifold (1400mpi or 1600mpi)? there is no manifold that will suit a mpi head and a carb unforunately, so either DIY, or you could use the 1200/1300 cylinder head?

nope im limited to a single carb. Which manifold would be the easiest to modify to fit the head then?

i have no idea, at a guess id say the cathedral shape one. Unless its done well you will loose power and loose any advantage you had of chainging to the bigger valves.

ask adam, he bodged one together lol

lol

Aye, i used a 1300sr inlet with the ports modded with aluminium putty to make them round.
But is modding against the regulations?

it worked intill some putty ended up in the head lol

so is the SRi head the big valve head

(sorry for the thread hijack)

nope i can mod it ive just got to run it with a carb and stay 1400cc

Yes, same sized ports/valves as the gte/gsi head.

It still worked after the putty had been through the head  lol

Yeah, i got mine off a mk3 astra. The valves are larger but the ports are smaller than a carb head

What was the putty you used? Similar to chemical metal or didnt it set?

^^ nice one, might have to get hold of one for my 1300

No it set fine, and was fine for months.
But fuel must have attacked it and broke it down.... So it eventily entered the engine lol

Yeah it was similar to chemical metal

Is the 1300sr manifold the one with longer branches? Do you know what those where fitted to? and was it a cathedral port inlet you used?

Adam

They have quite short branches.

13sb engines had them fitted(1.3 8v)

Yes there cathedral port, but i modded mine to a round port as mentioned above

ahh so thats the manifold that can take the 2e, and it has cathederal style ports like all the variants of carbs ? and all the injections are round right ? and the random renegade 1.4 carb is square. im slowly getting a picture of nova engines now lol

good luck with the mod and yer racing mate

Yes thats for the 2e3 carb.
It has cathedral ports(only 1.2/1.3s had these ports), 1.4 carb engines had SQUARE ports yeah(as did 1.4 SPI 8v)
ONLY 1.4/1.6 8v mpi engines had round inletports.

ALL OHC 8v s/b heads have the same exhaust ports

Confused yet? lol
