last sarurday we got the nova ready to run. as i was putting the Red top in there was wiring to do which the electrician at work did.
once thing were ready we turned it over, only it didnt turn over. The starter was just 'spinning'.

i removed it and the gear on the starter's shaft span freely so i presumed it was knackered.

now im worried :- did i put the flywheel on the wrong way around?

i have a new starter that arrived today, ill be trying that later.

Fingers crossed!

lol, think it'll be pretty hard to get the flywheel on the wrong way. if its a pot type then no chance lol. if its flat i think there is a possibility but still the clutch woulnt go on properly and with the surface that would bolt to the crank the flywheel itself i think would be wedged tight against the block stopping it from turning at all. if that makes any sense?

Didnt think it was possible to fit the flywheel around the wrong way.

When you fit the new starter make sure the two faces are clean.

Edit: Ck is too fast lol

might be a stupid question, but why?

It makes the circuit. The neg goes through the engine/body.

alot of the time the starter earths through the block and if the surfaces arent clean it wont earth properly. some engines come with the battery negative terminal attatched to a lead connecting to one of the starters fixing bolts.

EDIT: AWO6 beat me that time haha

A bit late to mention but doesn't the starter motor cog slide forward when cranking, then it releases away from the flywheel when running. If you could hear it running but not turning the engine over then the sliding action of the starter sounds to be at fault.

the gear on the starter (broken one) spun frele on the shaft, they should spin one way but not the other.

the solenoid was flying the gear out, you could hear it. it just wasnt fixed to the shaft i think!?
