Right im re-re-re-thinking my boot install once again lol

Now instead of that heavy false floor i had with the sub mounted in the spare wheel hole i want to have a 5th alloy in there and relocate the battery to, just on the left of the spare alloy.

My idea for the sub is to mount it so its firing down (magnet in air) on a piece of say 500mm by 500mm ply with a coresponding 12" hole cut in the middle for the sub to attach to. Mount this about 2/3" away from the rear seats (the whole back of the car is striped) using long bolts, bolted throught the metal of the seat base (just above pety tank) and using different sized bits of hose pipe (for instance) so its mounted to the floor but it not rock solid and is level, hence the different sizes)

Get me so far???

Right, will the sub be ok not having any enclosure? It will just have air space either side? and would this set-up sound ok? :thumb:

You mean a free air sub? I.e. one that isn't mounted on a box?

I know some subs are designed to be mounted back to front, a few of the audiobahn range for example, but they're still supposed to mount on a box.

free air subs need a truck load of power to get any form of "punch" from them..

you need a free air specific sub to do this, you will never get the same results as doin it properly with a well designed enclosure..

mine is in the spare wheel well i have no spare wheel and it was all tiger sealed when installed but mine is facing the right way up . sounds fine although you will need some powerful amp to power it

Aye, needs to be up to the task. What sort of install mate? If you are going for SQ I can't recommend Focal Utopia enough. I have one that is inverted/free air, and my mate used to run two inverted. He competed in and won IASCA SQ competitions with the car.

lol never meant entering comps mate, just if you were after SQ - quality, or SPL - bass lol
As said, they need to be in an enclosure :thumb:
