Going to raise my bonnet. Best way to go about this? Was thinking i could just remove the back bolts on the hinges, but would it not flap about? Or can you buy kits with blocks ready made?

Just space the rear bolts on the hinges with washers, make sure they're a large diameter (repair type) washer, so that the load is spread.

easy job, really reduced under bonnet temps, only really need if running two turbos and a red hot diesel lol
Dave Marshall was speaking to BTB about this.
They said that raising the bonnet at the rear would do nothing.
The best thing to do would be to put vents into the arch near the indicator and make a vent through from the engine bay.

It looks crap and everyone will just think you've had a smash. Heatwrap any exhaust you have and maybe get the bonnet louvred.
It only looks good on track cars.

i bought this kit from ebay...its alright but you will have to cut down the bolts they supply you with cos they tend to touch the bonnet surface and dent it.
i've now got four small dents in my bonnet now...bit annoying
I raised the old bonnet on my track car but the bonnet flew up so that was the end of that.
Ive got a fibre glass one now.

How you do that burgo, spacer bolts?
On a side note: If you have the firewall cut out then there is no need, since the hot air will escape (get drawn through) the vents inder the windscreen.

but more is better ;)
I reckon it looks pretty cool if the car has a few other mods!! I tried it on mine ages ago (removed again, as my car is pretty standard). I used longer bolts, and used little blocks of wood as spacers :) !! Easy mod.
Olly - I doubt that there would be much difference but there is no harm in doing it.
Just had a look at your WIP and you have both lol. As said there is no harm in it (I think anyway). Plus it does look smart.

I would have thought on a Nova, raising the bonnet would keep the front of the bay cooler, but hot air from the exhaust would exit past the inlet (and make it hotter) instead of going down and under the car.
[edit] IMO, it would look shonky as hell, like the bonnet is bent and not fitted properly. Plus, there's a good chance that in a front end crash the bonnet bolts would shear and the bonnet comes through the windscreen, taking your head with it.
[edit2] On top of that, how many performance cars (manufacturer's spec, not ones with gash mods) do you see with vents right at the back of the bonnet?
All very good points RJ worth further thought and investigation me thinks :thumb:
