I have finally got going on getting my car road legal. I stuck a gte lump & f13cr into a 4speed 1.0....
I can't remember if I used the shifter box off the gte or the one off the 4 speed, but I did put a 5 speed linkage & stick on

I have done the haynes method till the cows came home & I still can't get 5th to engage.

Is the 4speed shifter box different to the 5 speed? the one on the car does not have the engraving with the 5 gears on it.

stupid question but have you removed the plastic bit inside the car that will allow the stick to move over to get 5th gear?

I put a complete 5 speed linkage on, there is no plastic bit!!!!

the lever is clouting on the metal surround (where the gaiter goes)

The gear selector ontop of the gearbox is differant between the 4-speed and 5-speed.

I was referring to the funny thing on the top of the gearbox, and not the stick

I think they are differant fella.
Out with the 11mm socket again.

i dont have a haynes manual. what is the method they describe for setting them up? and does it still apply when fitting an F20?

sorry to thread hijack!?

on the shifter box, there is a small plastic plug, pull it out. loosen the clamp bolt. move the selector shaft to between 1st & 2nd then push a 5mm drill bit (blunt end first) into the plug hole & wiggle the selector until the drill locates into the selector & locks it solid.
move the stick to between 1st & 2nd, & keep it there (either using a friend or make a wedge)

tighten the clamp bolt.

If you take the gaitor off on the inside there is a mark on the shaft and the side of the internal selector box which you should keep the two lined up wile a friend does the 13mm bolt back up.

I think the selector turrets are the same. If you remove the gear linkage, can you engage the box by hand?

I can't get 5th by hand either

If you take the selector turret off, are the three selector "bits" all lined up?

Like so:

You can see what I mean about 1/4 of the way up the right hand shaft in my pic.

I think the one for 5th is the 'furthest in' of the 3.

they all line up, but I can only select 1/2 & 3/4.

I'm stumped. I suppose the next step is to open up the 'box?
