View Full Version : My super merit (wip)

Hobbit
17-07-08, 09:26 PM
I'm just getting started on this but guess this tread has gotta start sometime.

This is my last car, its currently in hundreds of bits in my garage, im keeping the engine and running gear for a rainy day.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/21052007151.jpg

right back to the nova, i picked it up about a year ago as a run about, but i enjoyed thrashing it about more than the 200.

It came with with the wheels, (cant find any of the pics at astandard height but im sure you guys know what a merit looks like.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/DSC_00005.jpg

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/DSC_00004.jpg

So far i've lowered it sixty mil, and added the bumpers (that i spent a while rubbing down, as they were white) and skirts both sprayed satin black.

Engine wise i have stuck on a 1.3 sr four branch manifold (cheers andy racer) And a new mongoose system.

Heres a few more bits going on soon
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/372.jpg

Will give it a clean and put up some more pics soon.

Looks like a great base for a lot of modding. Nice to see somone keeping it as a 1.2 (i presum you are anyways).

Saw those wheels earlier and thought "Great nova wheels"

Keeping the 1.2 yes, and i like the wheels too, shame i cant take credit for them.

I think the wheels are off a mark3? astra sport, but dont quote me on that.

Springs are just cheapy fleebay items, but they were just a quick fix for the boat handling

I know what it needs on the rear. A spoiler.

Im undecided on putting big brakes on a 1.2, More weight to pull around.

Alot its a pretty ruff kit. Its not really designed for show, For track you could just rivet it all together without to much trimming.

I am going to try and fit the original indicators but its a going to be a complete ball ache to cut. I've seen a few guys with this kit and no one has tried it, so would be nice to give it a go.

Have post been removed? Cause the last few posts dont really make sense. :wtf:

Couple more pics, progres was slow, the front bumper is the worst bit on the kit...

Front bumper is on using the original bumper bar (needed trimming.)

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/005-1.jpg

Still needs fixing onto the wings.

I chopped the rear arches up a bit :D And got a mate to weld them up.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/009-1.jpg

Other side will be welded up tomorrow plus should get the new rear quarters on

Yes there were a few, was a bit of unrelated banter:D

Im guessing youre gonna be fitting something kinda large in the wheel dept then with cutting the arches up like that, plenty of underseal/paint on there too as ya dont want it rotting under the kit as you wont know till the side falls off lol

Dod
24-10-08, 09:29 AM
Yeah a few posts were removed due to unwitting Chavness.

Anyway, what size rear wheels are you going to fit cuz you've cut a huge amount of the rear arch.

Hobbit
24-10-08, 10:07 AM
Kinda wanna know what was said now lol, oh well guess i will never know.

I will be painting the arches with some anti oxide primer, cant remember what its called.

Haven't got a clue what size wheels im going for yet, waiting to see how the kit goes on before i decide. Just thought i'd make the most of those arches.

Dod
24-10-08, 10:23 AM
Well when in Rome....

Have you any detailed pics of the inner, upper arch? As far as I remember they curve round on themselves on the outer arch, but if nipped and tucked nicely, they'd give massive clearence.

As for the deltetd Posts, Brizie was insisting he wasnt a Chav cuz he had a wikid 230bhp Scort init. Banging on about ****e FWD Cars when he has an RST Escort and that all Novas are ****. Great statement to make on a Nova Forum. lol

Hobbit
24-10-08, 10:35 AM
He was still going on was he? Some people have to much time to kill.

I'll get some more pics up from inside the arch, couldn.t get a good pic last night as it was late. and i was a bit drunk. lol But It is pretty much flat in there, taken it right back and welded the two skins back togeter. Cut about three inches off. I'm gonna have stupid amounts of room in there for 18's, Front an back. But i also want to keep it pretty low.

Today we cut out the holes for the indicators

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/021-1.jpg

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/015.jpg

I painted the arch with Zink 182 primer, and whacked on a bit of seam sealer just to be sure.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/024.jpg

Fitted the rear quarter with tiger seal and rivets.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/028.jpg

Again using a mixture of tiger seal and rivets we fitted the skirt, they are a really bad fit so will take alot of fibre glass to smooth into the arches.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/034.jpg

The near side rear quarter had a bit of rust, so we cut out a bit extra and used a universal arch repairer, but run out of gas on the mig :wall:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/046.jpg

So had nothing else to do so fitted my spoiler and flush boot pannel, the duck tape is just there to hold it while the tiger seal drys lol

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/044.jpg

I have given up trying to fit the new bumpers cause they would never fit right, and i prefer my old bumpers anyway.

turbojolt
25-10-08, 10:06 AM
so are all them wings fiberglass then if so that's a good move with the amount of rust on most novas arches

Hobbit
25-10-08, 01:01 PM
Only one arch had rust. but yeah will be nice not to worry about it. The wings and quarters are a really good fit, but the bumpers and skirts are rubbish.

Stuck on the back bumper, just need to make up some side brackets.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/015-1.jpg

Fitted my coilovers, they have a fair bit of camber adjustment so will have to get the tracking done as soon as its back on the road.

Trouble is they are MK1 front wings - if you chopped the section under each indicator you could improve the large panel gap; bumper to grill.

People will respect the work 10x more if the care an attention is taken to get the detail right. I like the rear arch work and the blow over looks kinda tough. So it might benefit from some different wheels, but it shows promise :)

Are you planning to trim the wings and fit mk2 bumpers. Mk1 bumpers look odd, IMO.

Nice job, what have you done about the fuel filler neck?

Just that I noticed on the previous place its still in the standard position and on this page the arch is over it with no hole?! Hope you've not forgot about that! lol :thumb:

I,ve added bits to the wings under the indicators to make the bumper sit flush, but its still not sitting right. I'm thinking of mucking about with the grill to get rid of that gap.

18's are next on the list, On the bumper front the rear is fine but the front is a pain, i prefer the more agressive/angled lines of the mk1 bumper, but it will never really sit right. Gsi bumpers are just a bit to curvy for me. So im kinda stuck.

Just got a bit of string at the moment lol but have got a boot popper to fit, but i need to sort out some side repeaters first.
