View Full Version : 1.2 Carb & 1.2 SPi?
I have a 1.2 carb engine for sale, and had a fella looking at it for his Corsa as the timing belt on it broke.
He was of the opinion that the block and head would be the same, and it's just a case of swapping over the inlets, and bobs your uncle.
I don't think it'll be as simple as that, but then what do I know!!!lol
So do I sell it to him and run, or be nice?

Explain that they're different, and sell it to him anyway.
The ports are different. Nice round cathedrial shaped items on the Carb and square ports on the SPI. Aside from that, the Cam carrier having a fuel pump on it and the breather set up they're the same. But the engine may still work with inlets swapped although there is a difference in the Inlets, as long as they cover the ports and dont cause a compression leak that set up should work.

It'd be easier for him to swap the whole engine over.
For the buyers point of view, for AMG, its still a possible sale.

I thought 1200 8vs were 'safe' in terms of belt snappage......
Carb is a nicer unit in terms of power delivery anyway.

They are Craig, mine snapped on my 1.2 carb. think you replyed to that on mig to Ck. and yea put the new belt on and it was fine
mine once went at 85 coming off the m40, no damage internally
A cracking wee engine they are indeed.
The Spi and Carb engines have different bores (i.e. the blocks are different)
Altho some of the last ones used spi blocks (code 12nz)
If he thinks its fine though, so be it
He lives fairly local to me, and I couldn't be bothered with him coming back to me and annoying me about it when it goes pete tong!!
If he comes back to me I'll let him take it away out of my sight then!!
