thought i'd make u a WIP thread of my A-reg 1.3SR that i bought last friday.

a friend had bought it a while ago from a scrap yard just before it was about to be crushed. He now doesnt have the time to work on the car so i bought it off him for the sum of £250.

she's got 42thousand genuine miles, it even has all the original booklets with it, but best of all it has the original purchase receipts:D

its not in too bad condition at all considering its 24 years old. the underside is pretty mint with only a little bit of surface rust here and there but still solid. the arches are going so i will get some repair panels welded in at some point in the future.

so far i have been going over a load of little rust scabs dotted around the car. ive been sanding them down to bare metal, using rust convertor on them then some red oxide primer and a quick spray of polar white. dont care if it looks patchey for the minute as its just for a run around untill i have finished my Sport, then i can crack on getting this SR up to a good standard.

anyway heres a load of pics ive taken so far

looking mankey hey lol

re-painted the back panel after sorting the small bits of surface ust out.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i95/ckallis500/13072008814.jpg

right thats where i am up till now with the photo's.

all the interior is back in and cleaned, (was nice and mouldy) ive left the front carpet and centre console out as the underlay was ****e so im gonna source another underlay before i re-fit the front carpet. im gonna finish off front end today and get the bumper n that back on.

Back in 2005 it went in for an mot which it failed and was sat every since. only failed on minor things like front brake imballance, 1 rear brake line, n/s/r brake inefficient, cracked screen, and a couple of bulbs, not alot tbh :D

For mot so far i've changed the rear shoes/springs, both rear cylinders and rear brake lines. fitted my spare screen (unfotunatly no top tint)

need to put my spare front brake setup on aswell saves tryin to free up the brakes that are on there. then a check over and hopefully it'll pass.

bit of good news aswell. i was told when i bought it that it needed a VIC check. apparently when my friend bought the car from the scrap yard they apparently had sent th elog book off as scrap. but good new i rang DVLA and they said that there is no VIC marker on the car so i can just apply for the logbook and i will get it, GET ON lol..

anyway moe pics in a few hours

The car was first registered to Haines + Strange Ltd of Cheltenham back on 17/5/1984.

by the looks of things it was used by the dealer as a demo car or something and then was sold to the 1st owner (other than the dealer) on the 15/9/1984

the 1st proper owner that bought it in september of 1984 paid £4800 for the car which i have the receipts for which i woudl have thought is pretty rare to find these days when buying an old car.

heres a few pics.

Would be really mint as a pure original car :)

16-07-08, 02:13 PM
yeah going to keep it as original as possible. i have my old 13b RX7 engine sat here which i will be rebuilding at some point and i want to put it in a nova at some point, i think this is too good to rip apart so ive decided its gotto stay the way it is lol

so aventualy (a couple years down the line) i should have a restored nova Sport, a restored 1.3SR and a rotary powered nova lol

vaughanmc

Thats a brilliant find, keep it original, you rarely see them Areg anymore

ck
16-07-08, 02:25 PM
yeah, quite rare these very early ones :D not had a chance to do anything with the sport really. so far its been stripped right down to a bare shell ready for the replacement panels. once i have sourced all the panels i will get cracking on with the sport and put up a WIP thread about that too lol.

slowly but surely it'll get there.

well, went for an mot today. failed on the two tiniest bits of welding. needed a small patch on each lowe arch where they meet the sill. all done now so will be mot'd tomorrow. then when i get my coilovers off greg1.4sr ill put them on along with my 13" alloys and sparco steering wheel, and a set of 236mm ate brakes. thats all im prob going to do to it as thats all for my sport.

also thought i migth aswell put my webbers and 4branch on thats fromt he sport aswell lol

will post some more pics this evening

Quality find! keep it as original as possible, especially with the history you have with the car. Don't change the early skinny wheel. Is the car missing the lower front valance? I'll be watching your progress with interest.

BIGS
17-07-08, 11:17 PM
no he had to take the snowplow bumper off to be able to tow it home

ck
18-07-08, 04:53 AM
bigs is correct, i used an A-frame to tow it home. i didnt want to damage the lower half of the bumper.

its all back together, minus the front carpet as the underlay was shaged. few patches of primer lol but i'd rather that than spots of rust doing their course..

as soon as its mot'd today ill tax it, then an oil change (havent done it yet but runs sweet and oil doesnt look too bad) got a couple genuine filtes aswell.

then when thats done ill be popping out to a friends ro hopefully go look at another early 1.3sr, beleived to be mustard/jamaica yellow...

anyway heres some more pics of how she stands. the 13" alloys on the front as the tyres on the original steelies were cracked on the sidewall and a little low on tread. gonna get the punctures sorted on the other two 13" alloys and use them for the time being (planned to go on the sport after being re-furbed and powder coated white)

heres a pic of one bit of welding needed,
