This might sound a bit chavvy but I'd like to know the outcome

What would win a race whether it be drag, track, sprint - Cavalier GSi or a near Grp-A Spec 1.6 Nova ?

Assuming the Cav is an XE, standard and FWD, my money would be on the nova due to weight and handling.

But then you're comparing modded to standard; take the money it cost to get the Nova to Group A standard and spend it on the Cav, then you'd have a fairer fight. Which the Cav would probably then win lol

[edit] Moved to general chat, as its not really a mech topic. Unless your question is about the mechanics of the group a spec nova, which at this point, it doesn't appear to be :p

Nova imo.

A cav will run a high 15 standard and a Nova GTE/Gsi will run a low 16 standard.

Strip and tweak the Nova and presto!

As above but you can strip a Cav and do the same.

Drag, 50/50
Race on a Track, Cav 40/60 Nova

But its a vague question, no 2 cars are the same so its nearly impossible to say.

Was just wondering really didn't know what to expect

I thought the Nova because it was mega light and would be very powerful at Grp-A spec :)

Cheers for the info!

What is Group A spec?

A highly tuned 1600 Nova can run mid/low 14s.

A Cav would need over 200 bhp to achieve that tbh.

Group-A spec I thought was like the rally cars - Up to about 150bhp from the 1.6 8v engine ?

I had a Cav GSi. Finest car I've owned to be fair, however off the mark speed isnt is trump card tbh. Once away & rolling though, pretty swift weapon IMO.

Handling was sublime on the H&R kit. Though it used to love wheelspinning, not enough weight bias upfront.

Try comparing a Grp A Nova GSi to a BTCC Cav :thumb:

But a BTCC cav has a bit more fundage in it than a grp A nova.... Lol

lol - I must say it isn't turning into a chav-fest yet :)

Has anyone actually ever built a near or complete Grp-A Nova ?

I know people that rally them, but there not on here.

Just comparing a modded Cav to a modded Nova though lol

Though Bruces wasnt far off, the Grp-A cars ran high comp Cosworth pistons that pretty much rule out the ability to use regular pump fuel, though that may not be the case if mapped using a modern standalone system as opposed to the tweaked Bosch L-jetronic that was homologated for Grp-A rallying.
