has anyone had any bad experience with them or anything dodgy involving them? the reason i ask is because about two weeks ago i sold a brand new but old style w810i phone that wasnt working properly on ebay, i was expecting about £20 for it for spares, about an hour before the auction ended it was on £19 then someone bid it up to £383 before i had chance to delete theyre bids, they had a new ebay account with no feedback with a usa address, i thought it was a time waster and thought no more of it,
next day checked my emails and i had 2 off paypal with all the paypal logos saying they had recieved payment for the ebay item and it was held in theyre escrow system, and i would recieve it once id provided proof of posting which ive never had before, but the second mail was to give me postal adress which was in nigeria not usa, i sent it anyway and sent them the tracking number, now today ive had these emails from 'paypal'

the first one

You can create like a ghost email account where it shows like service@paypal.com but is infact someone elses when you send anything back.

I've tried it before in the past lol

People have used this mefford in the past to scam people into handing passwords to emails before.

It's hard to explain but like i said basicly they use a program that creates a cover email account that will show to the other person when they recieve it but won't show your own or hides it someone where in the email so when they reply it gets redirected to your email.

Understand lol.?

They spoofed the email address, essentially told the mail server to tell you the email was from paypal. No software required to do this, its relatively easy.

Thats not even been spoofed very well as you can see the originators email address.

Thats a scam too - paypal will never ask for your PIN!

If in doubt, go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in. If the message is legit, and important, paypal will flash up when you log in asking you to do whatever it is they want you to do. Same goes for ebay.

Never ever ever click a link in an email (or reply with personal information) no matter how genuine it appears to be. ALWAYS log into the site independently and perform the required action.

In fact, IIRC both ebay and paypal will always ask you to go to their site and do whatever, instead of sending a link.

ok rj I will type slowly & in the queens english.

my father in law is american (SEPTIC tank = Yank), americans don't understand the word bollox, so I asked the good lady if she would mind conversing with the jolly foreigner about going away henceforth as we would not be purchasing his hairdryer and we would be reporting him to the colonial paypal dept for deception......

In reference to the thread about stupid warning signs etc, these scams still go on because there are still people who are outragiously gullible enough to follow them through.

Refunding someone money before they have paid you may sound stupid to us, but some people will thing thats perfectly normal. The scammer probably makes a mint from it too.
