im pretty competent with bodywork and paint, my mate wants me to smooth the bumpers into his wings on his corsa like ive done to mine but i got fibreglass bumpers before i did it, and he wants me to do his standard plastic bumpers, ive never done this and im worried that they will crack, does anyone know a way to stop them cracking?

Find a pair of fiber glass copy bumpers will make you life a lot easyer.
As the plastic on the top of the bumper is soft and flexs alot.

yeah im pretty sure they do them on ebay ...i know they do for novas anywho ...imo if your mate's gonna drop the car too i wouldnt bother the first dip in the road or speed bump he hits, it's gonna all crack and f**k up all the paint work ect

ive tried explaining all this to him but he just wont have it he wants it 'euro' styled dropping it 100mm he reckons on 14" rh cups and smoothing everything im just gonna tell him hes better off leaving them and just taking out the swage lines smoothing the bumpers but not actually into the wings, it wont last 5 minutes round here hills everywhere and our roads are awful

flexible filler ;) other wise know as plastic filler that will solve your problem.

no matter what filler you use it will crack.id use sikaflex to bond the bumpers to the wings, make sure you use a plastic adhesion primer on the bumpers before bonding to the car, then use fibre glass paste (JAM) to shape the bumper and wing together.

FG paste is too rigid an will eventually crack as there is no movement in the product. Then again, if your not ****d and you have advised him against it... get him to sign a disclaimer :d

id never use sikaflex and filler together, sikaflex has movement in it where as filler or fibreglass paste hasnt where you bond the item with the sikaflex or other bond any flex in the shell the bumper or whatever you bonded will move but the filler wont want to and it will crack wont last 5 mins if it was fibreglassed on instead of bonded there is less chance of it cracking, i know the bumpers will crack anyway but if your going to bond something on then smooth it in, ie sirts or a bonnet vent for example use fibreglass paste to bond it on then smooth in with as little filler as you can

that is why flexible filler was introduced, for bumper repairs. Serisouly its like plastic which can be bend in half and still not crack.

I'ts used on bumpers for that reason, as they tend to flex so this compined with plasticezer which is mixed with the paint gives more flexibility. I reckon you could do this without it cracking if you spend a little bit of time reading up one some more expensive products which are out there.
