View Full Version : fitting new suspension
hi all,
just a quick question, i have a full suspension kit shocks and springs for the nova gonna fit it in the next few days, anything you could advise me on, ie do i have to worry majorly about chamber ...or is it as easy as...ramp it up...unbolt the old suspension and bolt in the new ones? btw it's an apex sport kit 60mm drop ( arches and wheels r no probs got gsi alloys on)
thanks
ok, bolt it on & then go to a tyre shop & get the geometry & tracking adjusted.
CAMBER will only be affected if you are using camber adjusting bolts...
Really? as i've heard that lowering can put the camber out.
it does.
i placed -80 front schocks, and had a camber of +3 degrees.

cut bumpstops in half, unless theyre already cut..
Peester - Why?
But its easy, i changed mine yesterday only prob i had was with rusty bolts, so before you start put loads of wd-40 on the bolts/nuts your be undoing.

youll hit the bumpstops too early/easy/soon @ theyre standard size/height..
ideally fit smaller poly bumpstops that are progressive.. Dont cost much.
It says so in the instuctions when you buy a kit new anyway
*EDIT: im talking 60mm drops only..
I knew you ment 60mm, But now i think about it i understand...

The worst part is getting the centre, top nut off the old piston rod out of the top mount. Its usually seized solid if its the original suspension.
Poly bump stops are a good idea too.
Be sure to re-assemble the top mount correctly, use a HAYNEs as reference. If incorrect the camber will be badly affected.
I used a battery impact wrech to loosen my top nuts. The shock of the wrench loosens the nut, even without touching the piston. I didn't have a drop neck type spanner to stop the piston spinning whilst taking off the top nut, so I used a cloth and vice grips to hold the piston further down. Cloth is to stop scratching of the shiny bit of the piston. I just tightened the top nut sensibly when re-assembling, again holding the piston with vice grips.
thanks for all the responce, i assume when you say reasemble the top mount correctly i'm assuming you meant how it came out im guessing its just remembering to put everything back as it came out before, ill get my axel stands and jacks out tomorow and give it ago hopfully get it all done in a day if i get in trouble ill give robin atherley a bell as he's pretty nifty with the old novas :D
