Since i put the car on the road after rebuild and respray i've had a liast as long as my arm to finish. It was never quite the way i wanted it and seeing others at the show just spured me on more.

The turbo has been smoking on idle and i haven't drive it since PV. I was going to rebuilt the turbo at turbo technics but found a hybrid turbo on mig with around 7k on it since courtenay rebuilt it. Got it for quite a good price since and its cheaper that rebuilding mine.

I brought a rover 214 to bash back and forth to work in so i wasn't under pressure. only cost £100 with tax and mot. bargain

12th July: started striping the engine bay as i decided to slap some paint on at the same time. This is only to get the car to silverstone and i will redo the painting over the winter.

My old turbo had a different actuator - I'm not sure what its is but decided to use it instead of the standard one - anyone reconise it?

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/P1010126.jpg

i got a powdercoated wiper backplate and took the motor to work and painted it in the office.

Looks to be a good start....

Whats the make of body kit on the red one, really transformed it from a nova to something rather horrible lol

Bay would look real nice if you tidied up the wiring a bit, however, you'd smoke me anyday so im not going to start recomendations lol

looked at the pics of the pay after slapping the paint on and it looked crap so i decided to start again and do it properly now rather than redo over the winter. applied filler over the nearside
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/fillingenginebay.jpg
while that was going hard decided to keep removing bits to paint\polish etc.

took the dissy off to do in doors later;

before;

during;
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/moredissy.jpg

I've also lacquered the bonnet vents i got from Will F; tried them on the bonnet; they are much darker now i've lacquered them. I'm not sure if i'll use them or not yet.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/vent2-2.jpg

Ordered a brand new rad and a 10" spal to go on the front to keep the underbonnet tidy, should be here some time this week, and my chrome bolts arrived from a guy on mig from greece.

The wiring is going to get a haricut and i will loose as much as i can. i might drill the inner wings and run it that way.

Stay tuned for another exciting adventure!

Even though the car got spanked by the council in the week, i thought i'd crack on with the WIP until it goes to the bodyshop for repair.

3rd August
I've spent hours removing the loom and stripping it all back and repairing and re-taping. i've also tried to hide the loom as much as possible.

Fitted new hybrid turbo with new studs and nuts, drilled new bottom hole for the radiator to give me a bit more clearance for the rad and fan. the brand new rad and fan arrived so i fitted them. I also have remove the front panel support to make it easier to get the fan in. I will turn it into a bolt on bolt off item instead.

Cheers Keith, at the moment yes. haven't got the funds for anything else. i'v been loking at merc intercoolers, i've been under a few mercs recently and i reckon they are a good length for behind the bumper.

Not really bothered updating this but the bug bit me again to get some work done on the old thing. Have spent the last couple of weeks under it and finally got the loom gremlins sorted so it idles normally and nearly stopped all the oil leaks. Thanks to some purchases over the last year it looks much neater under the bonnet.

Cheers Nick, thanks for the bits you decided weren't right on yours, agreed the sparkle under the bonnet makes a big difference on a dark car. Defo going to shows with it this year, probably park it in the car park at billing though. Nice to be back.

Cheers for the help in the past. :thumb:

Picked up some shiney bits today, guessed the size rather than measuring and the 60mm ones are too bit, can't return them because I ordered them. Not sure now whether to get 60 to 50mm reducers or sell them and order some 50mm. Also got stopped in London by the rozzers because the rear plate is not on, one of them had a corsa gsi and chatted for 25mins and had a good look at the car. Gutted I can't bolt the pipes on.

Just a little update, not done much the last couple of weeks but warren at gaz turned my order around in 4 days, so I though it would be rude not to fit the coilovers. It's my first set ever so I wasn't sure about what's a sensible drop for eveyday use, so took some advice from benn since his looks perfect. It turned out his wasn't just shorter bodies, he likes low in a whole other way:tard: great advice nevertheless, cheers benn:thumb:
order the normal ones which it turns put ain't that floor shy anyway.

Still waiting for the compbrake mounts I ordered, never expected the coilys that quick. Lucky me, they don't rub.

thanks andy, never had so many respected names with good comments. I wad terrible before, the boots fill of tools and the cpurtenay front springs were only temp but ruined the drive. Spent most of my time staring at the clouds on boostlol it sit nicely on it's nose now, it's a bit bouncy though!

MK999

depends if the bouncing is up/down like a free spring or just where it's following the road, apparently I used to "bounce" in my old red one as I drove along purely because it was sat on stiff springs lol

the little water pipes are the next bits to get sorted, I was trying to work out how the hell to get it to the header in a pretty way, nice idea Benn. Will look into it once I've sorted some new silicone ones. Btw- where can I get lenghts of silicone without buying kits?

Wee update
got a new alternator to replace my nasty rusted noisy one, spent hours sanding flat and buffing before the nightmare of fitting it from underneath, bloody scratched it and after all that it doesn't bloody charge. Took it apart and broken bits dropped out.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/a46f36bb.jpg

also picked up some new front brakes to go with the rear disc beam, they were advertised as 308 bit turned out to be 288's
the previous owner had only painted the visible bits but I started from scrath with acid etch primer and enamel paint. Not sure about the red yet but easy enough to change later

I painted the rear calipers silver but I like the red on the front now I've seen it on so I think they will change to red also. Just need to order the new bushes and paint the arb.

Bloody nut, I was hoping nobody would noticelol

I ran out of acid etch primer so left the nut till I get some more, the body of the alt was primed in zinc but I'm not sure the zinc would stop it rusting again in the future.

You know I saw those vents around eighteen years ago and have always wanted them. I did offer for somebody to make reverse moulds using them so some more could be made. Maybe Ade would be the guy for that since he's a wiz with fibreglass and moulds.

Spent a couple of hours tidying bits up and a little painting, I've started to assemble the rear disc beam, but had a change if plans in the inside face of the disc stoneguard, more modern cars have silver instead of the black so changed it to silver. See pic below;

Have ordered beam poly bushes from raldes and just need to confirm what left hand handbrake cable to get, I thought it was cavalier estate short cable, any confirm?

Okey dokey

Cracked on today, got the old beam off and fitted the powercoated one from earlier in the thread.

Got the bleed nipple off the old drums ok but the main fixed pipe union snapped off on both sides so I'm gonna need the two fixed lines that are attached to the beam, doh!

I have braided for the rear but they only replace the rubber flexible ones, the ones I need are the shaped copper ones cover in green plastic that go from the braided and into the caliper.

I never seem to get much time for details but have been painting and storing bits up for a mass fitting session. So much of it is still ugly but the next rebuild will be anal, thanks in part to you, Keith and Benn.

It actually needs repainting but we are about to start looking for a house (with garage) in the next couple of months so I can take my time.

I couldn't resist slamming it since I was under it.lol
It's still no where billing quality so it won't be making the trip.

Cheers for positive comments, jeff

You can get the line make up if you can find a local motor factor that makes them. If not let me know and i can make you 2.

Well, not touched this thread for whole but have kind of ignored the black one since Nick Jacksons old car arrived. To cut a long story short, after Putting it all back together then having to replace the injector o rings, I haven't managed to get it to start and run. I literally have spent hours under the bugger trying to figure out why, I never changed any major bits.
I was now faced with the last 30 days before the tax runs out and last weekend caused a major petrol leak but bending the fixed fuel pipe from the pump to the floorplan supply.
I've also had to rip the loom apart and replace the mini loom for the knock and icv.
I managed to find a plumbers that sells 8mm by the metre and replaced most of the fuel supply feed from the pump, the only bit I left was the bit clipped along the rear chassis leg as I could get to undo it.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/364ca935.jpg
After replacing the supply and refitting the fuel rail, she fired for the first time in four months. That's the last time I take bits off just to pretty them up as it caused more problems. Lol
She's a bit tappy but here's the proof I do have some skills, as the wife and kids told me to send it to a garage months ago as they think I was in over my head.

Cheers Benn, I was getting close to ripping the turbo out and sticking an xe in it tbh. I've still got to finish the brakes for the Mot and I'm seriously looking forward to driving it again. It also likely to end up back in the bodyshop for some repairs as it bubbling in places, I also snapped the grill when it rained and i slammed the boot while I was legging it.

Right, bit of an update.

This had been practically abandoned last summer as I got Nick's old car and had to mot, tax, insurance a forth motor completely unexpectedly. After stripping and repainting\polishing the inlet bits it developed a huge missfire after a few minutes and only ran with a perm live to the pump. Even that got progressively worse and I struggled to keep it running long enough to drive 6 miles to the MOT centre and back.I got an MOT taxed it and that was all. When I tried to take it out last weekend I Broke down before even pulling out of my road.

Last week I decided that enough was enough and I got under it, determined to find the fault or call Merris for tool advice.

The huge problem that has almost caused me to break or sell it was a £5 bit of hose from the tank to the pump, because the hoses has a fibre wrap over it I failed to notice a slight split but when I dropped the pump mount and tried to run it, it pumped pure air to the fuel rail.

Got the hose replaced and she runs like a beauty. I'm over the moon to say the least. During the head scratching over the fuel problem I managed to tread on the grill and snapped it and the NSF wing has bubbled badly.

Today I washed her and put some of the red stripe back on and we bonded again.

Only pics of her clean but bumping this thread indicates my intention to push on to bring her back up to her best.

I'd agree.... except I drive it to work and you can't really do that with a show car, also, I built this one and I get to practice before touching HUA. I toy'ed with the idea of getting a mk5 r32 for work

I can guarantee that the turbo lump for HUA will be detail on a whole new level for me.

Little update, primarily collecting new parts for its return to standard gsi form.

Got some front window trims last year from Nick J, and they have now been joined by excellent condition rears
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/e872e2e3.jpg
Also received the brand new sideskirts and fitting kit, unfortunatly the long bits have some scuffs on, anyone know how to smooth scuffs on these without using filler, I was thinking of brown paper and a warm iron! does that sound stupid?????

I also took it along to the SE meet on Saturday at Bluewater, this was my first actual attendance ever at a regional meet.

The plan is to source some upol medium grey for the B pillars unless I can find a truly close copy to the vinyl, I'm also on the lookout for a front splitter but not the laguna one, probably another vauxhall one, I like the Astra H one.

Right, had the day off although it turned into afternoon only and it was roasting so decided to spend the afternoon putting the standard window surrounds on the gsi, I got the fronts off Nick J last year and recently got some rears off sturge.
One of the reasons for the change was that having masked the car last summer, the satin black lifted off the surrounds. As pic below
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/gsijeff/d1ece496.jpg
So front done, rear not
