my car failed its mot on tuesday and here is the reason of why it did :(

me and my dad are having a go at sorting it out but im not sure it will be done before the end of the weekend:( so im going to miss driving it:(

but it will be worth it when it can be put back on the road again:thumb:

Ah, you should have fitted a bumper mate, no where to mount the number plate.

we started work on it earlyer and we got all the new metal clamped on but then it started to rain so we couldnt start welding it all on so tomorrow hopefully we'll start welding but yeah when i got up this mornin my dad already had it off and it was a bit of a shock when i came out side lol

should have just bough a replacement lower panel! Much less work and wont look a bodge when done!

Replacement panel really is the best idea.
As you want the crossmember as strong as possible, a LOT of force goes into it.

Agreed with will and ad, much neater and stonger job welding in whole replacement panel.

easier too! just drill out the spot-welds, then weld it on....job done.

i can see what you all meen about getting a new cross member but i could not find any anywhere so if anybody knows where to get them from then let me know please:)

no all the mechanical stuff on the car is sound

looks quite tidy, mk2 five doors dont seem to rust as much as three doors.
is it minstral grey?
one of mine is minstral grey, top colour :cool:

yeah it is there are a few parts of rusts here and there like on the arches and stuff but other than this major bit its ok:)

its a tad more expencive, but a lot easyer to put a full front in!! thats what i had to do with mine!! not to worry though timsr, be well worth it!!

i just cant wait to get it back on the road its only been off since about half 8 this morning and i havent drove it all day and probly wont get to till some time in the week so im missing it already lol

i did have three up untill santa pod 08 :D
i sold my j reg red gsi just after going to pod in it
i have a j reg red 1.2 flair, just had two cils and rear arch fitted
its just what i use to get to work and back but its all original and not really been messed about with, very shinny red
and my project k reg minstral grey gsi,
at moment the shell is in my garage and waiting for a complete
front panel to be fitted. :thumb:

nice one mate i was at pod 08 was a good day hoping to get on the stand next year if its on lol

i would have snaped your hand off if i new about that GSI lol

i think im getting a front panel with the crossmember now iv changed me mind about welding the car up lol

I fitted a new crossmember a few weeks ago, time consuming but im glad i did it because i now know its one less area to worry about rust lol i paid £56inc vat for mine from a place in Pickering,North Yorks but im pretty sure they buy them in either from sel imperial in doncaster or beevers in barnsley who both stock them.

my aim is to get my grey gsi on the stand for next year.:)
the red gsi, i just put for sale sticker on the window in the
pod car park and that was it SOLD

ok cheers mate im definitly getting a new front panel with crossmember because at the end of the day if its all weak and rubbish and you have a crash then its going to end up badly aint it lol

i got mine from imperial because i live in sunny donny,
i think it was a bit more around £70,
but its only round the corner.

i have 2 genuine crossmembers ( exactly the part you need to fit ) in my loft let ya have one for £30 there easyer to fit aswell slot in very well compared to the pattern stuff gimme a pm if interrsted
