Since they're 20+ yrs old I'd say you might make in and around 140BHP, but these things are rockets and deffinately dont break too handy. A fantastic choice of an engine.

im running an f18 box on it at the moment, was wondering what box do they come standard with?

Dod

They come with an F16 standard, ideally an F18 is dead on btu I've had a few of these give up on me and prefer F20s but you'll be dead on with it.

If you manage to tune the carbs right you'll see more than that mate.

You got a good manifold for it? I got about 8 XE 4 Branches if you want one....

Want as in Take with you FOC.

i always thought the xe manifolds wouldnt fit due to the ports being different or am i wrong?

No, just the stud pattern is the difference.

No, just the stud pattern is the difference.

WTF? the ports are completely different as well, they are round as opposed to a more oval of the XE.

Also if you tune it up to "XE" power then it will break just as often.

sorry i should have said its an SEH im running, I was using an 18E head but have since changed back to an SEH one...

Anyone remember Tom strickland off mig?

i bought my cam of him, he was running an seh on carbs in a mk2 astra few years ago, he got 165bhp on the rollers... if i get around 150 id be happy...

Wasn't Isaac Hunt Nova a turbo'd 2.0 8v?

im running a SEH too.. runs bloody well. i replaced my F18 with an F16 and it runs much better. tops out at 130 but gets there very rapid! saving up to get a full stainless exhaust made and my 4 branch fitted :)

My seh only made 110bhp on the rollers but feels alot faster than my old 1.6 gte did. tbh I cant fault it, there an excellent choice, loads of low down torque and dead reliable.

Do a search for tom sticklands site, theres loads of useful info on there, but iirc they dont need camming as they had a decent cam fitted from std and an aftermarket one will mean a loss in power elsewhere in the rev range.

Is it the 20ne? As they didnt have the cr box so it may not pull as well as the sri's do.

i wouldnt bother with a performance cam myself ive had one with and without and the one with only had the edge higher up the revs was flat before a certain amount i found when i had the second engine i kept the standard seh cam and just had the head ported with a decent exhaust and manifold and it went a lot better that engine must have been over 140 bhp cant have been far off an xe and i never once had a problem with it

Lots of people use the XE exhaust manifold on an 8v by chopping the mounting plate off and fitting an 8v one made by copying a gasket. Worth trying.

There's a link Here (http://tomstickland.co.uk/astra/mods2/engine/engine.htm) for tom sticklands tuning site.

Very good imo with lots of useful info for anyone thinking of tuning the 2.0 8v.

ive got a SEH in my nova my self with a F16 on it rebuilt it bout 2 month ago done 4000 miles (hard miles i may add) never missed a beat. got standard cam and standard manifold, seems to be quick enough for me got 135mph out of mine racing my mate in his redtop.

but thats the next route im taking just a 4 branch and then that'l do as its fast enough for what i want so if any one has one for sale PM me please :)

It took me months to find my four branch, just gonna have to keep looking, migweb or mk2 cav.com is a good place to search.

How did you do against the redtop? my seh is std but up against a mates nova xe on 45s, which was rr'd at 165bhp, it did pretty well keeping up.

well his and mine are both standard but there's not alot in it till 3rd gear then he starts to pull away then when i get to bout 120ish he starts to get further but i wouldn't say its a massive difference to be honnest.
cheers ill try them sites for 1.
